My family and I paid a visit for the first time to Chiquito Mexican Restaurant at Birstall, Leeds. Situated in the heart of the retail park nearby to other food outlets, cinema and stores Chiquito’s is a great place to go as a family because you can then make a great day out of it.
Having a family and living in a busy city we are always looking for things to do in leeds. We are always on the look out for fun experiences and restaurants to eat at throughout the year.
The Chiquito’s building from the outside looks so enticing with it’s very unique Mexican styled exterior. When we entered through the main entrance we were greeted straight away with a nice warm friendly staff member who seated us in this very lavish Mexican restaurant. Ok, to be honest I have never been to Mexico, but this decor is what I would of expected. A darkened room with candelabras made from mexican bottles and sobreiros with red and dark brown wood themed decor.
The seating was quite comfortable and the area we were sat in was lovely and I can imagine this being a great place for couples to come for a bit of alone time.
Whilst we were waiting to order we were given a bowl of nacho’s to nibble on. we all selected our main meal from the lunchtime menu available Monday to Friday 11am until 5pm.
The kids were starving and we had other things to do in Leeds so time was not on our side for food. We chose the 3 course option for £9.99 with a soft drink, beer or wine for only £1.50 extra.
Things to do in Leeds | Chiquito’s Meal Menu
Starters
For starters my boys ordered Nachos for one which looked more like nachos for 3! A mammoth mountain of gooey cheese melted splendour. My youngest son had the garlic flat bread and my husband had chicken wings with a BBQ sauce. I chose the most delectable bruschetta I have ever tasted. We were also brought extra side plates in case we wanted to share or starters between one another.
Main Menu
For the mains my boys had the Chiquito classic burger which is a very generous portion with succulent juicy burgers. My husband had the chicken tortilla wraps and I had the vegetarian chilli option with enchiladas, this was my first experience of eating anything containing enchiladas and I was pleasantly surprised. Being a vegetarian I am always on the look out for the vegetarian options on restaurants menu’s and Chiquitos has 10 in total which is brilliant.
Desserts
Although full, we just had to try the desserts, I mean it would be rude not too. My husband and boys all had the chocolate brownie which was a hearty portion of delicious brownie and creamy ice-cream.
I decided to try the banana taquiro as I was curious as the description said it is bananas wrapped in a cinnamon tortilla fried and served warm with a toffee sauce. The presentation of the desert was fantastic and the taste was too! A little heavy after the other two courses I struggled to finish the full dessert but it was definitely different and delicious.
Birthdays!
From start to finish our server was very friendly and extremely helpful, even offering to swap the goat’s cheese in some of the vegetarian dishes for a different cheese as I am allergic to it. Before the desserts came I managed to have a quick word with the server and mentioned it was my son’s 10th birthday and asked for a candle in his desert. When the desserts came we all sang Happy Birthday and she even shouted to the whole of the restaurant that it was Jake’s birthday and they all gave him a huge round of applause. He went bright red but loved the attention, if that wasn’t enough the server then appeared with a kids cocktail with balloons attached.
