He’s got the Man Flu!
My husband works shifts and really looks forward to his days off, so do I as I produce a list of things that need doing and this week was no different. The Christmas tree and trimmings needed to go in the loft, we had to go and price up for new flooring after a leak from the bathroom, which has destroyed all of our downstairs flooring! This week my list of jobs did not even get a look in as my husband was poorly and when men are poorly don’t you just know about it!
I do not know about you ladies, but from my experience when men get a sniffle they act as if they are dying! (well mine does) I apologise if I offend any men during this post, I just want my husbands to grow a pair in a bid to make him treat me better when I am ill. I also know that there are Supermen on this planet that are reading this post, who are totally immune from the dreaded Man flu.
My husband began his days off with a sore throat (No not any sore throat but the worst anyone has ever had!) and he told me he was feeling pretty rubbish all round. I personally managed to diagnosed him with possible Tonsillitis using nothing but the torch on my mobile phone, oh and a box to stand on because he is taller than me. We all know that as a mum and partner we have to become a nurse when our little and big ones are poorly!
His Sympathy Sucks
I suffer with M.E and various other ailments. So, whenever I catch a cough or a cold it really takes hold of me (which sucks), although if it is sympathy or general looking after I require living in a house full of boys is not the place to be (take my word for it). If I am poorly I still have to do all the jobs, make the tea, packed lunches, ironing and so on, all this whilst feeling like death warmed up! If I am poorly the whole house comes to a standstill because no one shows a shred of sympathy.
When my hubby became poorly I decided to show him just what it feels like to be looked after properly (I know I should have just left him to fend for himself but that’s not in my nature). I am kind of hoping he will return the favour once I have smothered him with kindness, he is a good man but when someone is ill he acts like it isn’t happening.
Caring for my Man Flu Patient!
With my hubby sat looking rough and poorly on the sofa. I decided to look after him just like I always have my two boys. So this ‘big boy’ was going to get the special treatment by me too. When the kids are poorly and off school we always have a ‘poorly bed’, which consists of a duvet, pillows, complete access to the lounge TV, books & magazines etc.
So, with my poorly bed in place on the sofa, I had to make sure we had Paracetamol and Ibuprofen in the cupboards to give the patient, so off to the shops I went. I came back with this little lot of Man Flu treatments, surely this and TLC will be enough to shift any man flu!
With Mark laid cosy on the sofa with his pillow & duvet, plenty of hot drinks, water, and tablets every 4 hours, I encouraged him to have a sleep so he would hopefully awaken feeling a little brighter. He was then provided his ready made chicken soup and fruit to help boost his immune system, topped off with an Ice-cream! I carried on with my Florence Nightingale act for the next day, which may I add was exhausting work. I take my hat off to actual Nurses who have to look after more than one person at any given time.
I made sure that Mark did nothing but rest with no pressure to do any jobs around the home. I even encouraged him to watch a movie or play on the PS4. I reassured him that nothing was too much to ask for and I was around to keep topping him up with the cold and man flu remedies, vitamin filled snacks and a couple of bacon butties as they are his favourites!
The Cheek!
Mark at times seemed suspicious of my ultra-kind nature which I though was cheeky because surely he had noticed I am like a saint all of the time. He asked me on several occasions why I was being so nice to him and began to laugh. I could tell he was definitely enjoying being looked after and clearly my plot has worked, well I hope it has! I have to say there is so much to be said for resting when you are ill because he has recovered quite nicely in only a few days banishing the mighty man flu for now!
Let us just see if I get the same treatment the next time I feel unwell, watch this space! Does your fella get the Man-Flu? What’s he like? Is it a little similar to my situation? I would love to hear!

Ha men can be such babies when it comes to illness, a dr friend of mine told me in their defence, men appear to suffer more than us apparently. Thanks for linking up to #brilliantblogposts, please add my badge or link back if you can, thanks!
