Ox Pasture Hall – The perfect romantic & relaxing getaway
Our romantic break at the luxurious Ox Pasture Hall Hotel
I have been to quite a few hotels over the years that simply do not live up to my personal expectations, but finally Ox Pasture Hall has restored my faith in Hotels. Ox Pasture Hall hotel boast some of the most amazing backdrops North Yorkshire has to offer, and not only that but the hotel is so well thought out from the moment you drive into the parking area.
I initially took the time to do a little research prior to attending this romantic getaway for me and my husband I instantly fell in love with the charming, fresh and rustic style Ox Pasture Hall had to offer. Ox Pasture Hall Hotel has seventeen acres of land and every part of it has been used to the fullest potential making everywhere you walk look extremely pleasing at every single stage of you romantic adventure.
Our Arrival
We checked into Ox Pasture Hall just after lunchtime, the car park has plenty of spots to park and we were immediately surrounded by some simply breath-taking views. I can honestly say I was taken aback by how beautiful this hotel was and every inch is clearly maintained to the highest standard.
We walked into the reception through an enchanting walkway, which is surrounded by small seating areas made for two, gardens of beauty and the perfect sounds of water features.
We were greeted by such a friendly chap at the reception who spoke with a calm and enticing voice, making you feel as though nothing you ask of him would be a problem (This is far from the stressful city centre hotels we are accustomed to on previous getaways). This chap then led us to our hotel suite (Room 31) on the way we walked through the hotel and I can say the décor made me turn my head wanting to explore what Ox Pasture Hall has to offer instantly.
Once inside our luxurious hotel suite at Ox Pasture Hall, I noticed a gorgeous scent and I was completely shocked. I have no idea what products they use to clean their rooms, but I loved how fresh and clean the room looked.
The luxury suite was amazing , it was like somewhere I had always dreamt of staying. We had so much space an amazing view and fresh flowers placed on a table in the lounge area.
I feel I have to talk you through each room separately because if you are planning a romantic stay anywhere, Ox Pasture Hall should be at the top of your list.
The Lounge
A large area filled which had a two-seated settee a coffee table, a flat screen television, a stand-alone radio and a large wardrobe. The furniture was traditional and extremely inviting so much thought put into each part of the room. We used this area to sit, relax, and chat to one another on a few occasions before and after we had explored the rest of Ox Pasture Hall.
The Luxurious Bedroom
The Bedroom suite at Ox Pasture hall made me feel so happy, I could not believe we were lucky to have a king sized bed, which was beautiful. The bed made to perfection and the bed linen smelt amazingly fresh. We had so much room in the bed, my husband takes up a lot of space and it felt as though we could have placed us and the our two boys in one bed and still had space to have a great night’s sleep. The bedroom had large draping thick curtains, blocking out the light when shut, which is perfect to assist a great night’s sleep.
The Luxury Bathroom
The Large luxury bathroom was spectacular with two washbasins with large waterfall taps and a huge bath. The Bathroom had a walk in shower with a glass panel separating it slightly from the rest of the area. The bathroom tiled beautifully and elegantly from floor to ceiling , yet the room felt modern and stylish. I made use of the bathroom at every given opportunity, my husband found me disappearing throughout the romantic getaway, often finding me pampering myself with a relaxing bath or shower.
After settling into our suite and having a nice cup of Yorkshire tea, we headed back to reception as we had afternoon tea booked.
Afternoon Tea
We arrived for our afternoon tea and we were asked very politely if we would like to have Afternoon tea inside or outside of the hotel, due to how nice the weather was at the time. We were sat in a gorgeous little area outside of the hotel and was offered tea & coffee. This followed by an assortment of scones, perfectly sliced sandwiches and assortment of cakes and pastries.
The scones were delightful and they were slightly warm, these accompanied with an assortment of potted jams, fresh and clotted creams which is my absolute favourite!
The sandwiches were varied with a mixture of beef, salmon and cream cheese with cucumber. The sandwiches tasted so fresh and full of flavour.
The bottom layer of our cake stand was filled with homemade biscuits and cakes. I am not sure if you are supposed to eat them all, but my husband and me could not stop eating as they tasted divine. Who could resist chocolate cake, lemon meringue slices, lemon cake, and light and fluffy shortbread? I felt filled to the brim with the amount of rich and delightful food served.
Afternoon tea is a must on your romantic getaway with your partner, it’s a great chance to really listen to what one another has to say set in an amazing environment.
Ox Pasture Gardens
We decided to walk through the grounds of Ox Pasture Hall after our afternoon tea, hoping to burn a few calories off! We walked through trellised walkways, which brought you out into the rear grounds of the hotel. No romantic getaway would be complete at Ox Pasture Hall without taking in the breath taking views the grounds have to offer, each area having its own personality enticing my husband and me into each well thought out area.
I found myself at times just sitting and staring, I thought to myself self on a number of occasions “How on earth does anyone managed to make something so perfect”. The staff at Ox Pasture Hotel must certainly go beyond to produce the type of results we were experiencing.
We headed back to our little romantic getaway suite and spent a few hours relaxing before heading for our evening meal, yes even more food!
The evening meal
This was a major highlight for us both. We were greeted by Friendly and thoughtful staff , kindly asking us where we would like to be positioned in the restaurant. We chose to sit near the window in a little tranquil area overlooking the lavish front garden of the Ox Pasture hall Hotel, where a few hours earlier had been the perfect setting for a wedding that we got the chance to admire from afar.
Our drinks arrived with minutes of ordering, which I found a pleasant and refreshing change to say the least. This closely followed by the menu, which included À la carte and a Bistro selections. The choice of food seemed perfect for a romantic meal for our little romantic getaway. Some of the dishes sounded so tasty it was really hard to choose just what I wanted to eat.
My husband and me choose from the Bistro Menu
Starters
Soup Served with Homemade Bread
Ox Pasture hall served up a homemade soup made from mushrooms, the soup was thick and extremely tasty. I wanted to ask them the recipe because being a vegetarian I feel limited normally to what I can eat and I fell in love with the taste of this straight away, believe me it was no ordinary soup. Made from organic products with a consistency that was perfect and very filling, I was hooked!
Wild Mushroom on Toast Truffle Mayonnaise
My Husband had the Wild Mushroom dish; he always loves to taste various types of mushroom dishes because he loves the taste. My husband is very fussy with his food and I mean very fussy; however, he rifled through this dish. He loved every mouthful! The dish was well presented with great garnishing.
Main Course
Crispy Tartlet Wild Mushroom, Spring Greens, Pea Puree, Truffle Gnocchi
The crispy wild mushroom tartlet was a real surprise, every mouthful providing a different taste and texture. After the soup this was surprisingly light so they complemented each other well, the wild mushrooms and Truffle Gnocchi were cooked perfectly. I could not manage the whole meal, only because of the sheer amount of food I had eaten that day already!
Ox Burger Tripled Cooked Chips, Onion Rings & Chutney
This was not just a burger, It was a work of art. The triple cooked chips were positioned perfectly on the plate in a ‘Jenga’ style, the Ox burger was huge and just look at the totem pole of onion rings complemented with some English chutney. Unlike me My husband ate every last morsel of food on his plate. He could not stop talking about ‘That burger’.
Desserts
Sticky Toffee Pudding with Ice Cream
Ice Cream Scoop
Even after everything sweet we had ate earlier in the day, we could not leave the restaurant without at least trying just a small desert, surely that would be rude, or is it we are just greedy?
I ordered just a scoop of a very light sorbet, just for the sweet taste you crave after a meal and just look how it came, it looks beautiful.
My husband went for a true classic sticky toffee pudding with Ice cream, surprise surprise, he could not manage it all, eyes bigger than his tummy that one!
Compliments to the chef at The Courtyard Restaurant ,we enjoyed every single mouthful of food, and the presentation and service was outstanding.
After our evening meal, we decided to head back to our room taking a slow walk through the grounds of Ox Pasture Hall. I then got tucked up in bed and slept perfectly for the entire evening, the mattress and pillows were just so comfortable, they were beckoning me to test them out.
The next morning we decided to have breakfast at the Ox Pasture Hall Hotel, I still felt quite full from the evening before. We arrived at the reception area and we were greeted by a lovely lady at the reception desk. She made us feel as though we were no trouble at all (Even when asking for extra milk, because we are rather greedy when it comes to drinking tea and coffee) the most refreshing thing I found was that she was smiling throughout our conversations and really seemed to pay an interest in everything we had to say.
The breakfast
Breakfast was a relaxed affair even though it was extremely busy due to a wedding party who were staying at the hotel, The staff still appeared professional and calm and there was very little waiting time to be seated.
Tea and coffee was served to our table within minutes, which was great for me as I need at least five cups of tea on a morning before I can function properly. A cold buffet with fruit juices, pastries, yogurts and cereals were served at the top end of the restaurant. I did not manage to get a picture of this table which displayed the breakfast choices in a style and standard I was beginning to get used to from Ox Pasture Hall as the restaurant was full and I would have looked very conspicuous stood taking pictures.
The Full English cooked breakfast my hubby ordered arrived with five minutes along with my toast that I had ordered. Tea and toast was perfect for me after the day of eating I had previously had.
My husband was very complimentary about his breakfast and I must admit he is a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to cooked breakfasts, he always has an issue with something, well not this time! After breakfast and a very simple check out we headed 10 minutes down the road away from the serenity of the Yorkshire moors to the Yorkshire coast line for some fun at the seaside!
I truly can say this break really did recharge our batteries and gave us that nudge to reconnect which can often be needed when you have children and busy jobs and lifestyles.
I reccomend this hotel and restaurant wholeheartedly and would be more than happy to return again, Infact I did not want to leave!

How amazing, there’s little more decedent than a weekend away in a sumptuous hotel without small people!
I was sold as soon as I saw the fantastic bathroom and triple cooked chip – what a wonderful weekend!
Yes, Little people would most certainly get in the way. It’s a great romantic break and if you ever get chance I obviously highly recommend.
