Long, hot summer days spent at the beach or in the park are probably as relaxing as it gets, and if you’re going to be spending some family time outdoors you’ll definitely need some sustenance. Food and drinks are of course a prerequisite but don’t forget the other essentials that will ensure your day remains hiccup free.
Get your picnic checklist sorted all ready for Summer Picnicking and issues such as the changeable British weather, bug-bites and even chilled drinks should not cause any problems.
Food Essentials
You’ll no doubt have plenty of finger-foods, perhaps some hamburgers and of course maybe some cakes, and if this is the case then a cooler is essential. A cool box will help to keep food fresh and will also keep your drinks chilled. Flasks are another good idea for hot or cold drinks, and of course both of these items will ensure no little bugs get into your snacks or drinks. If you’re planning on doing some great-outdoors Summer Picnicking style cooking then a cooler will stop your meat and poultry from instantly thawing out the moment they leave the freezer.
Don’t Forget
There’s no need to go overboard with your picnic supplies but essentials will include a fairly large rug on which to set out your food and drink. You can never be too sure of the weather in the UK so remember to pack a large umbrella, which will provide some shade from the sun and some shelter if the dreaded rain does appear. If your kids are the type to explore those muddy tracks and trails then bring along a pair of hunter boots – also good for those who don’t like to get their feet wet when paddling about in the sea. Don’t know where to get them? Find them here. Hats and sunglasses are also essential, and if it is hot then some good sunscreen should be brought along as well.
Additional Supplies
Insect repellent is something that people often forget when venturing into parks – try your best to bring it along to avoid discomfort. You can also purchase non-toxic, brightly coloured, bug repellent wrist bands; these are great for the children to wear. Make sure you bring enough napkins, utensils, paper plates and plastic cups along too. It probably doesn’t need saying but if you’re going to the beach then some towels will be required to dry off after a dip. And finally, stick in a couple of trash bags in order to clear up once your day out is over.
Don’t forget to bring a few games along for the kids to play such as a Frisbee or football and a portable radio can also be a good idea. Make the most of the summer weather while you can by getting out into some scenic spots and enjoying one of the best types of family day out.
