The festive period is upon us and there is nothing quite like listening to Christmas Songs to get you in the mood on the run-up to the big day itself. So here are 10 Christmas Songs to listen to right now to get you in the Christmas spirit.
10 Christmas Songs you will love!
If you are not rocking around the Christmas tree wearing your novelty Christmas jumper and singing at the top of your voice, then I think you may be a little of scrooge. Each year we are bombarded by festive songs, some are poor, some are great but these 6 festive songs are truly amazing in my opinion. Although I seem to hear people do nothing but complain about Christmas songs now, surely there must be some they like. I can’t get enough of them and I wouldn’t change that for the world. Watching Christmas Movies and putting up the Christmas tree is great but without the seasonal music to match it wouldn’t be as exciting getting ready for the 25th December itself.
1 – Mariah Carey | All I want For Christmas Is You
“All I want For Christmas Is You” was co-written in 1994 by Mariah Carey and really gives that upbeat feel no matter what type of Christmas Songs you love. I generally start by listening to this great song most days, dear Santa I would love a voice just like Maria’s to sing this perfectly as when I attempt the tune it sounds more like the Grinch is singing it, but I still have fun.
2 – The Pogues Featuring Kirsty MacColl | Fairytale of New York
“Fairytale of New York” was written by Jem Finer & Shane MacGowan and released in 1987. Kirsty MacColl sang with MacGowan on this festive track which is an Irish folk ballad. It’s strange just how much of a festive feel this song gives me with its very unique style I just can’t get enough, McGowan and MacColl have such different voices, but they compliment one another perfectly making the hairs stand up on my arms.
3 – Shakin Stevens | Merry Christmas Everyone
“Merry Christmas Everyone” was number one in 1981 originally delayed to cater for the band aid single “Do they know it’s Christmas”. I adore Shakin Stevens he had so many hits that I personally loved as a teen I still listen to his songs now. I went to see Shaky only 4 years ago and I would have loved to hear him sing this song live. This is another one of the timeless Christmas songs that I always play to get myself feeling all Christmassy.
4 – Band-Aid | Do They Know It’s Christmas 1984 Version
“Do They Know Its Christmas” An amazing Christmas single which has raised so much for charitable causes over the years since its release in 1984. Band Aid was founded by Bob Geldof and he has continued his support throughout the years. I truly don’t think the run up to Christmas day itself would have ever been the same for me without this wonderfully uplifting song playing in our house.
5 – Wizzard | I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday
“I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday” Released in 1973 and is one hell of a popular British Christmas song! Wizard certainly did know how to use their magic when they wrote this track. It’s another one of my very best Christmas Songs to get me going and feeling Christmassy on the run up to Santa and his Reindeers arriving at our door.
6 – Slade | Merry Xmas Everyone
“Merry Xmas Everyone” is simply amazing and just could not be missed out of my personal favorite Christmas Songs. “It’s Christmas” just hearing Nobby Holder shouting out those simple words at the beginning of the song have my heart melt and the Christmas spirit flowing.
7 – Bing Crosby | White Christmas
A timeless classic Bing Crosby’s White Christmas Song. I love this song to sing along too.
8 – John Lennon – Happy Xmas (WAR IS OVER)
9 – WHAM | Last Christmas
10 –Nat King Cole – The Christmas Song
Come on I know you’re feeling festive too, What songs do you love or hate to listen to at Christmas time?
