4 Ways Your Children Will Benefit from Living Abroad

January 5, 2022 | Leave a Comment

Starting a new life abroad might be something that you’ve always dreamed of. But once you’re a parent, you need to consider what effect a move like that will have on your little ones. Moving so far away can be stressful for us adults, but it can be even more so for our kids, especially if they don’t feel involved in the process. Luckily, there are plenty of benefits to being what is termed a ‘third culture kid.’ So if you’re considering making the move, check out these four reasons doing so can improve your children’s lives.

Benefit from Living Abroad – Build Their Resilience

Children are resilient and moving to a new country will only strengthen that as they make new friends and overcome obstacles they wouldn’t have encountered in their home country. This unique and character-building experience will mean that your children will grow up into adults that are good at bouncing back and picking themselves up to keep moving forwards.

Benefit from Living Abroad – Enhance Their Adaptability

Most children are naturally more adaptable than their parents, and the younger they are, the easier it is for them to make a change in their stride. Having to make significant changes in their formative years can contribute to their flexibility as they grow up and make them more open-minded individuals. Adaptability is also an important skill when they eventually enter the workforce, as being adaptable is a great asset to their future employers.

Ensure Their Cultural Development

While we live in an increasingly diverse and global world, there is nothing quite like moving abroad to improve your child’s cultural development. Research indicates that younger generations are already more accepting than those that came before them, and moving to another country will only broaden your child’s understanding of other cultures.

Your children will have the opportunity to make friends with children from other cultures and expand their worldview, allowing them to grow up into well-rounded, multi-skilled adults.

Benefit from Living Abroad – Give Them Bilingual Skills

If you’re moving your family to a country where English is not the native language, the chances are you will end up with a bilingual child. In fact, children learn second languages far easier than adults do, and even more so when they are immersed in them. If you want to give your child a bit of a head start before you go, then consider enrolling them in online language lessons, or even working with them on a platform such as Duolingo – the service even has a kids app that you can download!

Moving abroad can be tricky, and you want to find a way that will allow you to take your family with you. There are a variety of options to consider, including a company transfer, or a Golden Visa attained through the property purchase.
