Hidden Child Campaign | Domestic Abuse Support for Kids

November 25, 2015 | 1 Comment

Domestic Abuse in the UK is witnessed by children far too often, these children receive little help and the Charity Hestia want to do something about this. You can help by simply signing a petition to help stop these poor children being Hidden. Find out all about The Hidden Child Campaign 2015.

How you can help protect children experiencing Domestic Abuse

Why we need to sign The Hidden Child Campaign petition

Domestic abuse is a topic seen and read about quite often within the media, unfortunately, with most cases mentioning the abuse between two adults. However, the number of children affected by domestic abuse seems to get overlooked. The Hidden Child campaign aims to raise the awareness of those children who are the hidden victims of domestic abuse.

It’s a shocking statistic, however, each year over 950,000 children are affected by domestic abuse across the UK either through direct involvement or as a result of witnessing it. The effects on these hidden victims are immense and often lead to the children requiring long-term emotional, behavioural and psychological support.

Despite the staggering figures, much of the support for the child is focused on the mother which unfortunately makes the assumption that the child will automatically benefit, which isn’t always the case.

Supporting the Hidden Child

The Hidden Child campaign calls on the government to provide support not only to the women who have fled these situations, but in particular for the care and support of children. Hestia currently provides specialist support for women and children within their refuges all across London, which includes counselling, social services assistance, arranging solicitors and providing varied person centred assistance whatever the need may be.

The Hidden Child campaign aims to raise awareness not only on the issue of domestic abuse, but also on the requirement for much-needed support to the child who is more often than not the hidden victim in these cases. Hestia come across a high number of such cases within their domestic abuse refuges, and so are looking to affect change which will assist ALL children (particularly those in refuges) right across the UK.

Signing the Hidden Child Petition

In order to assist them in bringing about these much-needed changes, Hestia would really appreciate your support by signing their online petition calling on Theresa May, and The Home Office to ensure that children coming into domestic abuse refuges are provided with the specialist support they so vitally need.

Sign the Hidden Child Petition

We are happy to be helping The Hidden Child Campaign to obtain the 10,000 signatures and hopefully more through their petition to get the government to make changes that will allow support to be provided to the children Click here to Sign the Hidden Child Petition.
