SKYLANDERS BATTLECAST GAME REVIEW

June 18, 2016 | Leave a Comment

Skylanders Battlecast has been made by blizzard a derivative company of Activision. Blizzard has made several hit games such as World of Warcraft which is amazingly popular and is getting a movie adaptation, Hearthstone a card game from which Skylanders Battlecast draws inspiration from and the wildly successful Overwatch released on the 24th May 2016.

SKYLANDERS BATTLECAST GAME REVIEW

SKYLANDERS BATTLECAST GAME REVIEW 2

Released on the 27th May 2016, Skylanders Battlecast is set to be the next big thing in card gaming. Being available on IOS, Android and Tablets, it’s free to download and play the app, however it is also a CCG (Collectible card game) with real life value able to be purchased in standalone booster packs, priced £4.99 containing 8 cards of over 300, or 22 card battle packs, priced at £9.99, containing 6 fixed cards and 16 random cards equalling 2 regular booster packs.

These packs can also be bought digitally through the app at the same price as the retail prices and can also be purchased through in-game earned currency which is acquired through making progression in the game itself. These digital cards hold no real-life value but are great when you cannot be bothered to leave the confines of your own home or they are simply out of stock or not available in nearby retailers to you allowing anyone with a mobile device to have the same gaming experience. However, you may find Golden or Silver foil versions of any card in a pack, these being highly rare and collectible, which makes the card’s level either 10 for silver or 20 for gold (the level cap) from the get go once you have scanned them in.

  • Skylanders Battlecast IOS can be downloaded here for free!

Speaking of which, physical cards aren’t a waste of money due to the fact you can scan all cards into the game. Anyone who purchased a Skylanders Superchargers Starter Pack may remember being given a Stealth Elf and Spitfire battle cast card with the set. These cards are examples of Character cards. There are also Spells, gears and relics which each play in their own unique way in the game. However, getting onto the gameplay itself, the game consists of PVE (Player vs Enemy) or PVP (Player vs Player) combat modes with their being a level progression system in PVE. The game is 3 v 3, your Skylanders versus 3 enemies or 3 other players Skylanders where you use attacks and cards to whittle away at their health.

SKYLANDERS BATTLECAST GAME REVIEW

When a battle begins, you have 1 Crystal and gain a random amount of 0 – 2 per turn at the beginning of your turn. You may then spend Crystals (which recharge at the start of your turn) in order to play cards from your hand, the cost being equal to the number in the top left of the card. The effects written on the card then play out, with the resulting situation between the two fighters being based on the card used. You may also attack for a base amount of damage based on the Skylanders out, with each hit giving 1 exp and 3 exp leveling you up, to a max of 20. you may also get character cards, with more being unlocked based on the level of the skylanders.

My Thoughts by Jake Marsden Hirst – 14 years

I absolutely love this game and the fact that it is free is fantastic! I save my pocket-money to purchase the card packs and really love these and the artwork on the cards. I am a Trading card fan and play Pokemon and Yugioh at a local club, now I can play this on the computer and collect the cards too!

And there you have it, a review of the recently released Skylanders Battlecast.

*Disclaimer we purchased these packs for purpose of this review*
