Water Kids Safety 101: How to Keep Your Kids Safe from Drowning

January 14, 2021 | 1 Comment

In a study made by the Center for Disease and Control Prevention, about one in five children perish from drowning. Children from the ages 1 to 4 are the individuals most prone to drowning. Unfortunately, this accident occurred in the pools located at their very home. This study is an alarming statistic, especially if you love to conduct fun children’s activities around the pool area. Fortunately enough, as parents, there are ways to ensure your kids’ safety while allowing them to have fun in your pools at home or when attending a swimming school. Following these tips can make your time with your kids as fun as possible while keeping them away from harm’s reach.

Teach Your Kids How to Swim

According to a study by the American Red Cross in 2014, 54% of Americans don’t know how to swim. Teaching your kids how to swim and enrolling them in a swim school doesn’t just allow them to enjoy the waters at their current age. The skills they’ve learned will also be a foundation for their swimming capabilities when they become adults. There are some critical home pool safety factors to consider if you want to lower the chances of your kids getting involved in a pool accident. Among those safety aspects is the installation of pool barriers. There’s a slight possibility that they may enter the pool without you noticing it. Installing pool barriers like a four-sided isolation fence can help you prevent your kids from going to the pool without your consent and proper attention.

Kids safety – Keep Your Kids Supervised

Your home pool is there to make your family enjoy swimming in the comfort of your own home, so it is inevitable for you and your kids to go into the pool and have a fun time. The best you can do to keep your children safe from unforeseen water accidents is to supervise them. Drowning can happen almost anywhere, and if something like that happens, a watchful eye can reduce the risk. Aside from making sure that electric accessories like the pool heater or solar cover are properly installed away from children’s reach, it is still important to supervise them while they’re swimming, or better yet, ensure that a skilled lifeguard is nearby to keep them safe.

Although spending time in the pool can give you and your childs joy and excitement, there will always be a slight chance of a drowning accident. To avoid such mishaps, you can teach your kids the necessary swimming skills to make themselves safe while swimming. You can also install some pool barriers to prevent swimming pool access without permission.

And finally, make sure that there are skilled lifeguards around the pool to make your kid’s safety paramount. By having lifeguards equipped with first aid training, like the first aid Kitchener course, the likelihood of accidents resulting in serious injury or fatality decreases significantly, creating a safer environment for the kids and everyone enjoying aquatic activities.
