Making Breakfast time Fun & Fresh
What annoys you most at breakfast time?
I don’t know about your house, but everyone in my house seems to have a favourite cereal and they are all different. I end up with my cupboards filled to the brim with various boxes of different cereals. I also hate to leave cereal open in my cupboards, I don’t think it is hygienic and I do not fancy giving it to my children for breakfast after storing it this way.
How I solved Messy cereal boxes in my cupboards
Whilst on a recent shopping trip to Ikea I discovered these very inexpensive storage Jars, I decided I could store my cereal in these and place them in my cupboards instead of the bulky cardboard boxes. When I got home and transferred the cereal over to the jars, I decided on a new place to store them, out on my work surfaces, I think this was partially inspired from a recent Hotel stay.
Once I started transferring the cereals to the Jars I got a little carried away, I added porridge pots, a fruit bowl filled with fresh fruit and the toaster ready and set up to make crumpets, waffles, pancakes and fruit bread. My husband also came up with a pretty nifty way to fill the jars without spilling all the cereal. He purchased a funnel that we purchased from a supermarket for just over a pound. He cut the funnel down so the cereal can easily be poured from the box into the jar.
So now apart from keeping the cereal fresh it is also fun for the kids, they can select the cereal they want to eat on a morning and easily pour it into their bowls with virtually no mess. On weekends and when friends and now my son’s girlfriend stays I put out a selection of pastries, crumpets, waffles, bread for toast ect all ready to select and toast.
I think I have been watching far too much of ‘Four in a bed’ and I am enjoying playing at serving Hotel style breakfasts!

Brilliant ideas, breakfast can be hell.
I love the idea of the cereal jars, as I hate trying to jam the cereal boxes in the cupboard….they take up so much space 😀
love new ideas on how to make mealtimes fun
Fanatastic idea!! but dont you find the children want one cereal for a while and then go off it- usually when you have just bought a new box and you end of trying to find imaginative ways of using it up!!! I make crispy toppings for shepherds or fish pies or use in flapjacks or chocolate crispy cakes!!
Must admit I get a bit annoyed when they like one cereal and when they’ve finished the first box they don’t like it any more. If you then buy them something different it starts all over again. lol
