5 Ways to Get Your Kids to Drink More Water

Water is the best thing you can give your kids. It’s essential for their growth and development, but it’s also easy to forget about. With all of the distractions in the world today, parents may not realize that their kids are not drinking enough water. The good news is that there are ways to get kids excited about drinking water! Here are some tips:

Make Drinking Water Fun

Drinking water is important for your health, but it’s not always exciting. If you have kids who don’t like to drink enough water, there are a few ways you can make it more fun for them.

Start with fun containers similar to the colorful containers at frank green. You can find bottles in different shapes and sizes or even ones with their favorite cartoon characters. You can also get reusable bottles that are shaped like animals or fruit! They’ll love drinking from them!

You can also make flavored water by adding fruit slices or fruit juice to normal tap water. Or, if you have the money, buy additive-free infused water that they’ll love. This way, they’ll still be getting the benefits of drinking plain water without tasting it!

Another great tip is to add a straw. If you have plastic straws at home, try having your child use those instead of regular cups so they’re drinking through something different from what they’re used to.

Make Drinking Water Easy and Accessible

Making water more accessible to your children can be a challenge. But there are ways to make it easier, so they always have water at hand. 

Keep water in the refrigerator and always make sure it’s cold. This will help keep your children hydrated, especially on hot days when they’re more likely to be thirsty.

Have a variety of water bottles available, including ones with straws or caps that don’t require them to lift their head to drink from the bottle. This will help prevent spills and make it easier for them to stay hydrated while playing or running outside!

Provide fun cups and mugs with handles that are easy for little hands to hold onto while drinking from them (or even better, get your kids involved by helping them decorate their own cups). This way, they’ll feel a sense of ownership over their own drinking vessel!

Make Drinking Water An Adventure

Children are not always easy to get to drink enough water. They might have a hard time understanding why they need to drink so much and may be more likely to just grab a juice box or soda instead of plain water. However, if you can turn drinking water into an adventure for your child, it will be a lot easier to get them to drink more of it.

Get your child a toy that teaches them how much they should drink daily. The best toys will have colorful graphics and tell you how many cups or bottles of water your child should drink each day.

Set up a fun game where your child has to drink so many cups before they reach the end of the track in their toy car or airplane ride at the park. If your child does not want to play this game, you can use it as an incentive for them to drink more water throughout the day.

Take your children on walks around town where they can see pictures of healthy foods and drinks while they walk by them. This way, they will learn about healthy habits while having fun on their walks. 

Make Drinking Water Part of Their Everyday Goal

You must ensure that your children drink water daily, so adding it to their everyday routine could give them the mindset they need to add hydration into their everyday lives. You can do this in a variety of ways so that it becomes second nature to them. 

Make sure they always have a bottle of water with them and fill it up when you go through the door. If they don’t have one, prepare one so that it is always on hand. Or add the task of filling the water bottle to their routine so they can do this themselves and have control over the water they drink. 

Keep a pitcher of water in the fridge and make sure they notice it every time they open the door. You can even put a magnet on the front so that it will stay there until you get tired of reminding them!

Put some ice cubes in their cup so that they can see how much they’re drinking while they’re drinking it! This will help them learn how much water goes into a single cup and how much room there is for ice.

Teach Them Why It’s Important

Teaching your children why drinking water is important is an essential step in getting them to drink more. You are doing this to make sure that they know the importance of hydration. Explain to them that water helps their body function properly and that they need it to grow and stay healthy.

The second step is to make sure they understand why it’s important for them to drink water instead of juice or soda. You can use this as an opportunity to teach them about healthy choices and why you don’t want them drinking too many sugary drinks.

The third step is to ensure you have plenty of healthy snacks around the house so that if they’re feeling hungry after school or between meals, healthy options are available for them (such as fruits). This will help ensure that they’re not reaching for unhealthy snacks when they get hungry—which can be a problem when they’re thirsty!
