Celebrate & share family mealtimes with Center Parcs

October 22, 2015 | Leave a Comment

Did you know that studies suggest that eating meals as a family help children perform better at school? Can you believe that Something as simple as making time to sit together at the table to share a meal can make our children excel in subjects at School!

Center Parcs are in support of eating meals as a family and are asking people to share a photo of their family mealtimes to be in with a chance of winning a fantastic family bundle worth £300.

Even the Prime Minister wants to use meal times as a measure of national happiness.

I have fond memories when I think back on mealtimes at home when I was younger. I was a child growing up the 1980’s and our family mealtimes were often spent catching up on what my sisters and I had been doing at school that day. One of my mothers favourite family meals to cook was Beef stew with yorkshire puddings and plenty of leafy green vegetables. For dessert, we had sponge and custard, rice pudding or semolina.

We used to sit down to a family meal every night back then, nowadays, unfortunately family mealtimes seem to be a thing of the past in some households, with people working unsociable hours, after school activities and even computers and consoles getting in the way of sitting down together for one meal a day.

I know in my house. My husband works shifts and eldest son goes to the gym daily so it is difficult to catch us all in the house at the same time. When we are all in together, I like to gather everyone up leaving their mobile phones and tablets in another room and actually have a conversation together face to face. I think this is something in this modern technological age we forget to do!
