Dad Home Alone: A Great Day with my Family

June 24, 2014 | 20 Comments

I Survived and I had Fun too!

Dad home alone-A Great Day with my Family

Getting Fit on the rowing machine.

It has been my second day in charge of the household a dad home alone, whilst Rachel has been at Britmums.

I was somewhat dreading been in charge of doing everything alone, I did not think I had it in me if I am totally honest!

Although I feel I am a very hands on Dad (Well I think so), I am at work an awful lot due to my job role, which leaves me kind of lacking when it comes to managing what goes on in the house.

I firstly take my hat off to Rachel; she just keeps us all in order and ticking over perfectly.

Let us get on to what my second day with the boys on my own has actually panned out.

The day started for me at 5am that is right I was knackered to say the least. My eldest son has also gone to London for an event and he wanted to make sure he was on time for the train, which set off at 6.45am. I do not know if you people have teenagers but they certainly take some waking up “I don’t recall the parent book stating you become and alarm clock”.

Once I managed to get him to the train station, I was determined to do something active with my youngest son. I hate the boys sitting playing their computers, especially in nice weather if I can help it.

Anyway, I heard about a local sports day, which was at a park close to where we live. I contacted Rachel’s sister who in turn was also going with her three children.

My youngest is not what I would call the most active! He is great but sometimes it is hard to get him motivated.

When we arrived, the park looked amazing and the local council had put out a great amount of tents filled with fitness equipment. They also had many events planned throughout the day which included tennis, basketball, rowing, rugby and rounder’s. This all topped off, with a superb fun run at the end of the day.

We took part in every single event, and you know the kids have fun when they do not want to leave. This put a massive smile on my face and more importantly theirs.

To me it shows that concentrating on healthy activities for a few hours will really benefit children and there is nothing like watching them zonk out afterwards because they have had plenty of fresh air and exercise.

Overall, we have had a stressful, yet fun weekend and I cannot wait to do it again soon. I must say I have missed Rachel but I am so glad that I have been able to spend time over the two days alone with my boys too.

There is nothing quite like a bit of father and sons bonding, it’s been filled with laughs and giggles all round.

Rachel is back now and I think I may very well tell her just how much I appreciate her a little more than normal.

Take a look how this day is different from the first day in charge of the household Click Here.

Sounds like a great weekend. I’d love to see how my other half would do in charge of the house and kids for a few days. Not sure he’d cope quite as well lol

    Hey Mark

I dropped in to have a read – good blog mate! It’s great these things are set up for kids to get involved in, and yeah – as other people here have said – these are things that stay with your children for years to come. Good times. I’m a firm believer in enjoying outdoor life and feeling the beneifts of nature and fresh air.

LOL, and at least this day was a little more manageable than the previous one…! As someone who doesn’t have kids all I can say is I take my hat off to both of you. Looks like you’re both doing a great job.

I always send my husband and my son to go out together. Just have a walk at the beach (we live near one) or bike on the prom. I want them to bond and I know this bonding moments will make them closer to each other more =) #mmwbh
