Keep Your Kids’ Mind Sharp from Home with Online Coding Classes

August 18, 2021 | Leave a Comment

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted every facet of life. While every home has its own unique circumstances and complications, mothers struggled to keep their children safely and productively engaged.

Balancing professional obligations while attending to our personal lives was challenging enough. Managing the needs of a household under these conditions only compacted the struggle. If you’re looking for a safe and productive activity to sharpen your child’s mind, online kids coding classes may be just the thing.

Kids Program Video Games

Today’s computer programming courses are way more fun than a parent may expect. Sign up, and your kids can learn coding online with a teacher who orients lessons around coding and programming a video game.
Children get very invested in projects which they have agency over. They’ll feel exciting by the idea of building their own video game, which helps drive them to learn the necessary skills and makes them feel proud of their accomplishment. When the video game is finished, and they can actually play and share it with friends, they’ll feel a higher kind of satisfaction than they could have ever got from just playing a video game.

Real Coding Languages

The best online programming courses show children how to use coding languages that professionals use to build the software, apps, and video games that many millions of people use every day. Avoid the type of courses that teach coding languages that nobody in the industry uses, like Scratch, which may successfully introduce kids to the idea of coding but will never be applicable in school or their job.

Look for a program that teaches children coding languages such as:
● Python
● Java
● JavaScript
● C#
● C++
● Unity

Young children are well suited to learn beginner coding languages, and this type of foundational knowledge sets them up for success in more advanced coding languages. Coding is becoming a more common subject in school, so learning it from an early age will give them a leg up towards high school, or it could be something they want to pursue professionally down the road.

Attention from the Teacher

When selecting an online coding course, choose one with a low ratio of students to teachers. Everybody needs attentive instruction when learning a new subject, especially kids embarking on something as different from what they’re used to as learning to code.

Ideally, there should be a maximum of four students for each teacher. Classroom management is much easier with fewer students, and kids don’t need to compete for their teacher’s attention.

Schools closed for in-person learning months ago, and the on-off nature of rolling lockdowns has left many people fatigued and struggling. It’s crucial that children stay stimulated as much as possible and avoid slipping through the cracks, but it’s hard amid everything going on. Online coding classes could be the perfect way to keep your child mentally stimulated and entertained from home safely.
