Whilst we all love summer weather both at home and on holiday it can be incredibly harsh for our complexions and hair. Heat, changes in humidity, and UV radiation dehydrate the skin and lead to premature aging and bring on breakouts. The heavy skincare we use in winter needs to be replaced with a new summer skincare routine all focusing on protecting the skin and infusing it with moisture. Lotions or lightweight creams are often preferred in the summer, as they still are moisturising but tend to absorb easily without leaving the skin greasy. Here are my top products to use during Summer and my Summer Skincare Tips.
Summer Skincare Tips – Use Sunscreen
Nothing is as critical for keeping skin younger-looking, protected, and resilient as daily use of a sunscreen rated SPF 30 or greater. Apply sunscreen 15 to 30 minutes before you go outside. I use Ultrasun SPF50+ Extreme designed for intense conditions and sensitive complexions. It Contains antioxidants and superoxide dismutase, as well as vitamins E and B5 to moisturise and hydrate the skin whilst providing heavy-duty protection. It’s great as I can also use it on my children too!
Keep your Face Super Clean

During the Summer months, we perspire more, so you want a product that will help keep your pores clean and your skin fresh and clean. Here are my top picks!
Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm £44 – Formulated to deep cleanse, soften and nourish your skin, this powerful balm dissolves makeup and daily grime. Your skin will feel intensely cleansed and renewed with a gorgeous glow and believe me this product lasts and lasts and smells beautiful. I also love Garnier Micellar Rose Cleansing Water £8.99. This is a cleanser that removes make-up, impurities & dirt while brightening dull and sensitive skin. Enriched with Rose Water known for its brightening properties with a budget price point too.
Switching from a Cream to a Lotion

Lotions or lightweight creams are often preferred in the summer, as they still add moisture but tend to absorb easily without leaving the skin greasy and my new go-to Anti-aging Lotion for summer is Elizabeth Arden Prevage Anti-Aging Moisture Lotion. With an SPF 30 and Anti-aging which helps protect skins appearance from environmental threats and has given me younger-looking and simply stunning skin. I use this moisture lotion after I have applied The Prevage Anti-aging Intensive repair daily serum day and night. This nourishing formula works by helping to support your skin’s natural collagen matrix, with Arazine to soothe and protect your skin from free radicals while reducing aging and inflammation.

These products are on the higher end of my skincare budget but are worth every penny as my wrinkles, fine lines, and even deep lines have improved after very little use. Even a few age spots are starting to fade and I am getting compliments on my skin from friends and family all asking If I have had some work done in a salon. Every Prevage product you use compliments each other and makes the results even more amazing.
Summer Skincare Tips
keep your cool by storing products in the fridge for a refreshing moisture hit. I love to keep my Eye creams and Eye gel in the fridge as they remove any puffiness from my eyes after a late night.
Freeze Skin serum in ice-cube trays and use the cubes to do a homemade facial massage It helps to improve tone and is instantly refreshing.
Aloe Vera is also a great remedy for summer as you can freeze aloe Vera juice into small cubes. You can use these frozen cubes to rub on your face when you come in from the sun or before you apply make-up and even at night. It will leave your face fresh and glowing as Aloe Vera contains two hormones, namely auxin, and gibberellins. These two hormones are responsible for providing anti-inflammatory properties that reduce skin inflammation.
Drinking plenty of water is a must. Six to eight glasses or 2 litres is the recommended amount. You could even add lemon, cucumber slices and mint to your water and drink it throughout the day.
The best way to truly get your skin to glow from the inside out is by ensuring that you’re eating a variety of superfoods. Vitamin C is a powerful superfood and antioxidant. It’s needed to maintain a strong immune system and is a key ingredient in giving you healthy, radiant skin
