Where to take inspiration from for baby names

March 4, 2022 | Leave a Comment

Having a baby is an incredibly exciting time and one of the most highly anticipated moments about becoming a new parent is deciding what you will name your child. The question often asked is, ‘what’s in a name?’ However, perhaps one that keeps parents pondering is more along the lines of, ‘how do I choose a name?’

Names define us in many ways and they are what make us stand out amongst everyone else. There’s a variety of options parents can be inspired by when choosing a name for their baby and in between buying snuggly baby swaddle sleeping bags and decorating the nursery, you will want to put some serious thought into the name you decide to choose for your newborn.

Here are a few ways you can get inspiration when choosing:

Names in the family

Baby name books are a classic way of helping you to decide on a name and can offer lots of different suggestions. You can find baby name books in pretty much every single book shop, which can offer you a plethora of suggestions. You will find they go across the full scale of the alphabet, usually paired with a name origin and meaning.

Baby Names – Name Generator

You may even decide to go rogue and let a name generator decide for you. For parents who really can’t decide and for whom a traditional name-choosing route isn’t an option, maybe leave fate to decide and pull out a name randomly for you. You never know, the name which is pulled might just end up being the perfect one for your baby which fits them perfectly.

Baby Names – Ask around

Last, but by no means least, ask other people for their opinions. You may have a sibling who has finished having children, but they have a name they would’ve like to have used but never got around to. Alternatively, your parents may have chosen baby names for both a boy and a girl before you were born, so you could ask them and find out what your name might have been if you had been born the opposite gender.

Whichever route you decide to take when choosing a baby name, make sure to pick a name which is going to fit in with your family and ultimately be suitable for your child life-long.
