My perfect Christmas Day
Christmas is simply my favourite time of the year. I enjoy everything from decorating the tree to buying and wrapping the gifts….Yes I actually love the wrapping and adding curled ribbons and bows to display proudly under my tree.
Christmas is always perfect for me as I spend so much time preparing and pouring my heart and soul into it in order to make my childrens Christmas extra special, lets not forget that trip to see Santa in his Grotto.
Christmas eve is the main build up to the day, we exchange gifts with the family, Christmas music playing, candles lit, warm bubble baths and new pj’s for the boys.
I can hardly sleep the night before and do not mind getting up at anytime ,well from 5am onwards. As a child I remember waking up every half hour asking the question all parents dread “Is it time to get up yet”
Sometimes on Christmas eve I take my Nanna to Midnight mass and spend some precious time with her in such magical surroundings.
Every year we have a tradition in our house, everyone has to go down stairs at the same time and I say “Has anybody been?” then and only then can we burst through the door, where the kids find their pile of presents, my husband is always on duty with the black bin liners saying “make sure you don’t throw anything away or any money” although some years are extra special as my husband is in the police Force which means he is not always able to spend Christmas day with us.
I sit making all the right sounds as the children open their presents, acting really surprised as they open every gift. As they have got older they have had more input into the gift buying, it isn’t as exciting as when they are 3 and 4 years old but whatever age they are I try to shock them with some gifts each year.
Every year we spend our christmas day lunch at my parents house with both my sisters and their families, it is always hectic, nosey and something always gets left in the freezer or has forgot to be cooked, normally my vegetarian quorn roast.
I think the only thing that would make my christmas even more perfect is well my dream actually. I would love to go stay at my parents home, the home where I spent many christmas morning doing the same traditions that I have carried on now I am a parent, I can still hear my mum every Christmas morning saying ” Has anybody been?”
I genualy feel excited now just reminiscing about my childhood christmas day’s, my parents always went above and beyond to provide us with the most special and spectacular Christmas’s, I will always be grateful for those fond memories.
So my perfect Christmas would be with my family back at my childhood home, feeling a little bit like a kid again myself, watching my mum and dad enjoy watching my children open their presents and spending time with my parents and my family exchanging gifts, playing Monopoly and helping to prepare lunch.
I think this perfect Christmas would not be so perfect for my kids , I am afraid my mum and dad do not have gaming computers, super fast internet or games consoles.
Maybe if my perfect Christmas wins your fantastic Christmas Competition then we would have that problem sorted, I think a compromise could be met , A PS4 tournament and a game of Monopoly
”Merry Christmas! This post is my entry into the Tots100/Argos 12 Days of Christmas competition.“ hope you all have a perfect day!
