5 Ways to Turn Your Bedroom Into a Cosy Retreat

Your bedroom should be more than just the place where you sleep; it should offer you a personal sanctuary, a retreat from the hustle and bustle of the outside world.

Creating a cosy bedroom is essential if you’re looking to engage in relaxation, however, it can be hard to know where to start.

If you’re looking to turn your bedroom into a comfortable retreat, then here are five design tips that can help you create a bedroom space that you’ll fall in love with.

Invest in a Comfortable Mattress

Finding the right mattress is one of the most important steps when looking to create a comfortable bedroom.

Over time, our mattresses become worn and uncomfortable, and ideally, they should be replaced every six to eight years. An old mattress can not only keep us from getting the quality sleep that we deserve, but over time it can cause issues such as back pain.

If the time has come for you to invest in a new mattress, then expert stockists such as Archers Sleep Centre can advise you on the perfect make and model to give you a good night’s sleep.

Introduce Soft Textures

When creating a comfortable atmosphere in your bedroom, it’s important to recognise how much impact texture has.

You should aim to incorporate soft and inviting textures by using throw pillows and blankets, and if you have hardwood floors, consider adding a rug to keep your toes warm when you get out of bed in the morning.

Declutter Your Floor Space

When your bedroom is cluttered, it can make it hard for you to relax. If you’re prone to having a messy bedroom, regularly schedule in the afternoons where you can tidy and declutter your space.

Rather than throwing away unwanted items, if they’re in good condition consider donating them to charity shops such as the British Heart Foundation. This way your unwanted items can find a new home.

If you struggle for space in a smaller bedroom, then consider built-in storage solutions such as fitted wardrobes to maximise your floor space while still creating a place to tidy your belongings away.

Introduce Relaxing Fragrances

Creating a cosy bedroom isn’t just about how your room looks, you should aim to engage all of your senses.

One of the best ways to make your room feel more relaxing is to incorporate calming scents. Fragrances such as lavender are a popular choice for creating a sleepy environment.

Rather than using scented candles in your bedroom, consider using fragrance diffusers. You’ll achieve the same effect without having to worry about an open flame.

Find the Right Lighting

Finding the right lighting can make your room feel warm and inviting, and if you want to relax in the evenings, then bedside lamps can prove to be a better solution than harsh overhead bulbs.

The right colour bulb can make all the difference, but if you can’t decide on a shade, consider a colour change bulb like those from Philips Hue to give you maximum variety.
