Game Review – Ryan’s Rescue Squad

November 13, 2022 | Leave a Comment

I am sure most of you may recognise the name Ryan’s Toys Review from youtube, but did you know Ryan’s Toys expanded to have its own range of toys? It doesn’t stop there, Ryan is slowly taking over the world of children’s entertainment with toys, games, and youtube videos combined. Ryan’s Rescue Squad is the latest from the franchise and my daughter had the fun of getting this game on our Nintendo Switch.

In the modern day of technology, youtube, and the virtual world that has taken over, it comes as no surprise that children are just as fascinated by the screens and the endless possibilities that appear on them. With that being said, computer games are a must-have in my household and so we were absolutely amazed to see that Ryan had released what seemed to be such an exciting game for us to play on the Nintendo Switch. If you are a fan of computer games much like myself and my children you may notice that this game is a 3D side-scrolling platform: think of super Mario as an example! This means it is essentially a more simple way of playing games and, therefore, makes it more appropriate for the younger audience that Ryan reaches.

Game Play

My daughter and I were so excited that we snuggled down to play the game almost immediately! From the very beginning of the game, the experience is thrilling and captivating. The game displays a comic clip of Ryan and his friends to show the story of how the Evil Dark Titan has taken some of Ryan’s friends: it is up to Ryan (and you as the player) to save the day!

This is a great start as I found it introduced the story well and set the tone for how the rest of the game may play out. I think that this feature is also particularly great for children as, instead of just pressing buttons and “playing” the game, they are given a storyline to follow and a clear mission throughout: save the day!

Ryan’s Rescue Squad consists of 4 main worlds to battle, with various levels within each world to add an extra challenge. Only the first world is unlocked, to begin with, it is then up to you to pass through the world successfully and open the door to the next world. Each world is completely unique and based on different themes so that they all remain engaging and just as thrilling throughout. The levels themselves are rather easy to understand which, again, makes it perfect for younger players. In the event that the level is confusing for the player, you are aided with a few prompts on what to do, especially when facing a new challenge or obstacle. For example, arrows and button guides may appear on the screen to show you how to jump and throw slime, etc. It even gives hints as to how to collect Ryan’s Surprise Eggs throughout the game!

Not only are the worlds unique and individually themed, but the levels are all different too! Each has new aspects, challenges, obstacles, and enemies to battle along the way so the adventure remains just as exciting throughout. The game is designed in a vibrant, fun way to ensure it is bright and engaging. Additionally, you are able to customise and “dress up” Ryan or his friends that help along the way by unlocking new costume items after each level and then accessing them in the shop area. I found this to be a fun and cute addition to the game as it creates a more personal feel to the experience and also adds the aspect of rewards throughout the game: complete a level to unlock a new costume!

Speaking of fun additions to Ryan’s Rescue Squad, it offers a 2 player mode! This is particularly wonderful as it means I can play with my daughter, or for families with multiple young ones, it means that they can play together. There is also the extra option to play minigames such as BullsEye, The Floor is Lava, and many more. This truly could not be more perfect to entertain a younger audience and make sure the fun never ends!

Conclusion

Overall, we LOVE the game! It’s super colourful, engaging, and most importantly….It’s fun. I have found that my daughter can really get into the game and relate to the characters as she already knows Ryan and his friends so well from youtube. The game is perfect for young children and designed in a vibrant way with an easy concept whilst still allowing a thrilling adventure and facing some challenges. We are super impressed and cannot wait to complete the mission, defeat Evil Dark Titan and SAVE THE DAY!
