Horrid Facebook video’s to remain Condemn It Button.

Why have facebook relaxed their policies again?

Facebook Condemn It Button

Before reading this, I would like you to know I am usually very relaxed when it comes to social media, this may just have hit a nerve.

After a beheading video was shared virally on the social media site earlier this year, the video was removed and Facebook reviewed their policies.

After the Policies review facebook have started to allow violent video’s and horrific images again, Facebook says videos are put up like this to allow the users to condemn them not to enjoy them.

In this day and age are facebook that naive to think that some people will not enjoy these types of video’s and images.

From a parents perspective, I am worried about the negative impact this can have on our children. Whilst I am happy to allow my children to develop in their own way, is it time to impose a Facebook ban on the household.

Initially I was not aware of horrid videos shared on the social site until I saw a quite upsetting video myself. The video I watched (for a few seconds may I add) was of a female smacking her child, I felt sickened by the video and quite shaken for a while. I could not believe this was allowed on the social site.

I couldn’t bare to watch the video and reported it to Facebook. I do know at the time it was removed at least from my view, but I am not sure if it was removed from other facebook user news feeds.

Why condemn if nothing ever happens?

facebook condemned

Facebook argue that people are condemning the videos they post and these are not for pleasure, however what is the point, condemning when there is no procedure for us to report the footage to the correct authorities. I mean you may see a video that has been posted in a different country from your own. Can anyone tell me how we would go about reporting this to the correct authorities i.e the Police or Social Services, surely this should be the responsibility of Facebook, to also give us a method of bringing these people to justice.

Obviously if you see a video in your home country and you think it needs reporting, you can contact our relevant services but again it’s not always that easy. Videos can pop up one minute and have disappeared the next time you log on.

After I watched the upsetting video, this left me with a very frustrated feeling and I wanted to do the above but I had no idea where to start.

Condemn it button.

Here is an idea! Why not give us a Condemn button that would allow users to actually condemn the videos.Once the videos have been condemned it should be then facebook responsibility to view the videos and report them to the correct services.

Then how about an update, yes then Facebook could update the people who condemned a specific type of facebook picture or video and tell them it has been reported at least then allowing these video’s would make more sense.

This would then make the video’s a useful tool and actually help victims (because that’s what they are) get the help they deserve.

I know Facebook will not take the responsibility of the above, but surely that would show that they are not just in this for the money.

As it stands for now, I suppose all I can do for my family is advise them that they may inadvertently click on a video marked as funny and watch a crime take place. I really don’t think facebook has thought this through and it is a shame, because rather than correctly addressing problems they are supporting them.

As a parent and a user of Facebook I would honestly love to hear your thoughts about Facebook policies. I do not know if any of my suggestions are actually in place, but I know for a fact they are not easily accessible if they are.
