How To Find Support When You’re Unexpectedly Expecting

Not everyone enjoys unexpected pregnancies, especially because they’re not anticipating it to occur. While this is the case, pregnancy is still a great thing, and some people consider it a blessing in disguise. While accepting the fact that you’re pregnant can be difficult, you should have the right support system. 

Yes, thinking about what might happen to you might scare you. If you can’t guarantee a good future for your child, you might want to consider adoption. You’ll be placing your child in a home that is emotionally, physically, and financially ready to care for a child. 

You can look for organizations online like AFTH. They should be able to match your child with the perfect family. As you carry your child, you may go through a rollercoaster of emotions. You may experience plenty of highs and lows. Here is how you can find support during these times:  

Ask Support From Your Partner

Going through an unplanned pregnancy can be tough, especially if you fear what the future might hold for you. While your partner might have the same thoughts as you, they should be there for you and both of you support one another. With that said, you can inform your partner about your thoughts and troubles, and ask for support and reassurance from them. Request for these moments even if they, too, have doubts about the future. 

As you and your partner are unexpectedly expecting, you should always communicate with one another, and avoid blaming anyone. There’s no use in pointing fingers. especially now. What you can do is plan together with your next steps, and how both of you can rationally deal with the situation.  

Let A Trusted Family Member Or Friend Know

While asking for support from your partner helps, it’s also beneficial if you get aid from a trusted family member or friend. In this way, you can vent your problems to someone other than your partner, and tell them how you feel. Some people fear that when they overshare their partner’s thoughts, they’ll become a burden to them. Or their feelings might be perceived in a negative light. With someone who’s not involved, you can be more open. You can tell them your panics and terror.  

Ideally, you should only inform a few people about your unexpected pregnancy, and ask them if they could keep your secret to themselves. You’ll come out with everyone once you’re ready. And they shouldn’t rush you emotionally into announcing your pregnancy. While it might be difficult for you to tell the news to your trusted friend or family member, you’d be relieved to know you have someone to whom you can open up freely.

If telling a close friend or family member isn’t an option, consider joining support groups. You will be with your fellow moms who are having  unexpected pregnancies

There are multiple support groups you can join in your area. If you still don’t have the will to go out and meet with them personally, there are online groups you could join wherein you meet virtually and communicate regardless of physical distance. In this way, you can finally have someone to talk to who has gone through a similar situation or be able to talk to professionals like those at Your Loving Choices (learn more here). Go ahead and ask for tips on coping with emotions. 

Moreover, a support group can encourage you about telling your family, especially after they share their stories of how their family handled the news, and are now supporting them. While every family is different, they will likely make peace with what happened, and accept a new member into the family.  

unexpected pregnancies – Support Yourself 

Sometimes, the best support you can get is from yourself. Even if people tell you positive things that will come your way, if you continue to give yourself negative thoughts, they might not be able to help you at all. To understand the kind of support you get from your partner, friends, family, and strangers, you should first try to support yourself by accepting the situation and looking forward to what good things might come your way.  

As you go through the process, try to embrace the moment, especially when your baby gets bigger, and you feel their movements every time you listen to your favorite music. When you accept your situation, try to think of the positive things that can happen instead of the grim ones. 

Think of how it would be having someone to be with you all the time, and having the chance to have a baby. A lot of people are willing to trade places to be in your shoes because they have difficulty conceiving.  

Going through an unexpected pregnancy can be challenging, especially when you’re filled with thoughts of panic and fear. But the best thing you can do is accept and embrace the moment. Don’t worry; there’s no need to rush your emotions. It could take weeks or even months before your feelings settle. It’s okay.  

Moreover, you shouldn’t hesitate to ask for support, especially now that you need to be emotionally well for you and your child’s development. You’d be surprised with how things could turn out for good.
