My Little Boy is all Grown up

 

                                                        

Exam Worries & the night before his very last day at school

I know all Mothers say this, but it really does not feel like two minutes since my son was a Toddler charging around the kitchen bumping into other people’s ankles in his baby walker (a.k.a speed demon machine!)

Ironing his Primary School uniform and running him a bubble bath.Playing his favourite game at bath time where I used to draw shapes on his back and play guess the drawing, it was always a sun or a house but it was so much fun watching him guess.

I actually think he used to get it wrong on purpose as it felt really ticklish and nice. Watching him in the Nativity playing one of the ‘Three Wise Men’, stubbing his toe and bursting into tears ruining his big moment. Seeing him grow into a young Teen and holding back the tears watching him go in to the same High School I feel like I have just left!

Now tonight I am sat feeling a little bit emotional, well that would be an understatement.I want to wrap my arms around my son and squeeze him with all my might. Why you may ask? Well he is very nervous as he will be sitting his GCSE Exam at 9 am in the morning.He may be 16 and can grow a beard faster than some men, but and it’s a big BUT he is still young and most of all he is still my baby.

Watching him tackle the stress of exams and making very important decisions is hard for me as a mum to stop myself jumping in to help.It has taken me a while and a few arguments to realise I can not make the decisions for him only be there to help – if needed and give advice if well shit hits the fan! Not only is tomorrow exam day, he informed me today that after the exam he will have an Assembly to say goodbye, and then they will leave school for the very last time at 12.30pm. He will only return in June to have study periods & Exams.

I overheard his younger brother saying “I wish I was leaving School” and his response was”I don’t it’s easier been at School “.It took me years to work that one out.

So I will be sat fretting in the morning that the exam goes well and in the afternoon all emotional that my little boy is not that anymore, more a well grounded young man that I am extremely proud of.  Motherhood just doesn’t get any easier!
