Pick your Own Fruit – A great afternoon out with a toddler

I’m very excited to write my first guest post and even more so that it’s for this lovely blog, Helen from Beautiful Things. I want to show you go out and Pick your Own Fruit

Pick your Own Fruit

My son Alfie is just over 14 months old and is reaching an age where he needs a lot of stimulation and activities that keep him interested. During the week I often find myself climbing the walls wondering just what will keep him occupied for more than five minutes at a time! On a weekend it’s a little less stressful as my husband is home so we can share the tantrums and toddler behaviour. Anyway, I digress…… I often like to take Alfie out on the Saturday with Adi (the husband) and do something to keep us all busy for a few hours.

 Pick your Own Fruit

A couple of weeks ago we decided as it was a nice day to go to a ‘pick your own fruit farm’. It’s something I’ve not done for years and years so I have to admit I was looking forward to it 🙂 We trundled into the car, packed it with the usual load of stuff that you need to take as a parent and headed over to Goslings Farm just outside of Ipswich. In season at the moment are strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrants and redcurrants, lots of fruit to pick with no time limit, great!

So off we went armed with our empty punnets down rows and rows of fruit, we picked the strawberries at first and I can honestly say I’ve never seen such huge ones, they were massive!! As it was a day out, naturally I’d dressed Alfie in a lovely Next white checked shirt and khaki shirts (more fool me) and as we were going round Alfie was just reaching up and helping himself, he was covered in strawberry juice!! I lost track of how many strawberries he managed to sneakily eat. He was having an absolute whale of a time and it did not stop there, we managed to get some juicy raspberries, blackcurrants and a few redcurrants too. By the time we’d finished I thought my son was going to turn into a strawberry or some fruit variation!

Overall, a fantastic afternoon out, Alfie loved it and it kept him entertained and obviously we got loads of delicious fruit for a fraction of the price than the supermarkets. I would thoroughly recommend if you’re tearing your hair out while the children are on their summer holidays!

fruit picking looks like loads of fun. I have never taken my kids before as my daughter used to come out in a rash with strawberries but now she is older she seems fine and loves them…definitely on my to do list now 🙂
