Popping the Question!

post-11155-058477300 1333017595_thumb

Over Christmas I found out that a friend of mine had got engaged. Her fiance to be had spontaneously taken her away for a lovely day out before completely surprising her by getting down on one knee and proposing to her.

It came as a complete surprise to her and she was overjoyed and of course said ‘Yes’

It got me thinking about how my husband proposed and I realized he didn’t actually propose!

We got engaged and moved in together within the first year of meeting each other, I think we both just decided to get engaged, I suppose, to cement our relationship but there was no getting down on one knee, no ring at the bottom of a champagne glass or any grand gesture. He did however choose the ring and it is a beautiful engagement ring, one I still love now.

When it came to actually setting the date it was years later when our children actually came to us and asked  ” When are you and Dad going to get married?”

When your children suggest you should be married, It does make you think! We decided maybe it was time to make our family all have the same surname and for me to become a Mrs rather than a Miss.

I wouldn’t say I was against marriage, my mum and dad met at 14 years old, engaged at 16 and married at 18, they are still together now after 42 years!

Even so, I have never felt my relationship had to be defined by a piece of paper, we had children and a mortgage already and that was enough for me, I suppose, well, I thought it was until I did get married and as corny as it sounds it did make a difference a little bit like the last piece in the Jigsaw.

I would love to hear your proposal stories romantic or just pure hilarious!

Maybe you are playing to propose this Valentine’s day and need some suggestions on how to pop the question!

I didn’t get a proposal because it was ruined by my drunken father who told me it was going to happen, because of this I was never asked it was just assumed. Then on our wedding day half my guests left the reception due to a death in the family. For our 1 year anniversary we plan to get as far away as possible

My husband proposed at our favourite picnic spot in the city of Wells. He got down on one knee. It was only a ring from Claires as he couldn’t afford anything more at the time but the ring didn’t matter. We went shopping for my engagement ring together (and we got him one too as we both like equality. :))

That is so nice, I even like the Clares accessories, ring, it’s kinda cute if you ask me. I do agree that choosing the ring together is a wise idea, what man really knows a Womens ring size!
