Who will be pulling Santa’s Sleigh? Learning Reindeer Names

November 25, 2014 | 4 Comments

Would you like to learn a little more about Santas Reindeer names? These wonderful North Pole sleigh pullers team up with Santa Claus each and every year to make sure your presents are delivered on Christmas Day itself.

Kids Activities Learning Santas Reindeer names

Will you be listening for Santas Reindeer’s this year? waiting to hear the clatter of the magical hoofs on the roof of your house. Maybe you will sneak a peek out of the window whilst mummy and daddy are sleeping in their beds. One thing is for sure if you do see one of the reindeers you may need to know their names. I would like to introduce you to all of the Reindeers one by one and tell you a little about what Santa calls to his trusty friends before they set off on their journey around the world.

Firstly, Santa Claus begins his journey by simply calling out each of reindeer names giving instruction to each to make sure they all understand what they are doing. It goes a little like this “Now, Dasher! Now, Dancer! Now, Prancer, and Vixen! On, Comet! On, Cupid! On, Dunder On Blixen away Rudolph!

Once Santa has finished each of the Reindeers hooves produce magic stardust and they are now able to fly! I am not sure if they can fly without the chant, but I am sure they can. Each year they take it in turns to be the leader of the pack, this year I am sure you can choose who you would like to lead. All you have to remember is the Reindeers names and a little about their individual personalities.

How many of Santa’s reindeer are there?

Well, there are 9 in total and each one of them has a very special personality and Santa’s Reindeer names are all very special.

Santa’s Reindeer Names

  • Rudolph

Generally the leader of Santa’s Reindeer, but sometimes he needs a little rest. Rudolph’s nose helps light the way for all the other reindeer because it glows red when he is happy. In fact, he is known as Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. He is a very loving reindeer who is courageous and guides Santa and his furry friends. He enjoys playing hide and seek in the north pole snow, but he isn’t always that great at it because his nose gives him away.

  • Dasher

The fastest of Santa’s Reindeer a friendly fellow with lots of speed, do you think Dasher could lead the pack this Christmas? I wonder if they would get around the world even faster with him guiding the way.

  • Dancer

Loves to dance and ever since he was born all he has ever wanted to do is spread joy through the art of dance. Dancer may not be the fastest to lead Santa’s sleigh this year, but I bet it would be fun journey watching all the other reindeer dance around the world delivering presents as they follow his lead.

  • Prancer

Loves to show off, but in a good way. She is also very courageous and he loves to keep not only herself but the other reindeer looking at their best all year round. I think she may be a favourite of the Elves because she keep things neat and tidy, so if Prancer was leading the sleigh I think it would be done in a very tidy fashion.

  • Vixen

A very spirited personality and when a job needs doing, she makes sure it is done right. Vixen is very lovable and between you and me, I think some of the male reindeers would like her to be their girlfriend. Vixen would most certainly have all of Santa’s Reindeers following her without question because they also know she is very good at any challenge she takes on.

  • Comet

A very distant reindeer he loves to spend time alone, but when anyone needs his help he’s there in a flash. Comet seems to be able to solve all the other Reindeers problems all year round and when Santa’s sleigh gets a little lost he is the one who gets them back on track with his fix it ways.

  • Cupid

Spread love and joy wherever she goes and is a great asset to Santa’s Reindeers. It’s often thought that even scrooge wouldn’t be able to resist her magical powers  of making someone fall in love with anything.

  • Dunder

Loves to make everyone happy, and he loves his food too especially carrots because they make him see better in the dark. Dunder is generally one of Santa’s Reindeer that helps with all those lovely, yet tasty snacks you leave on Christmas eve. Dunder would also make a great leader because he is very kind and would share all of the food with the other reindeers.

  • Blixen

The most determined of Santa’s Reindeer and when the Sleigh gets stuck in the snow his aggression, determination and big heart adds a little more power to the team of reindeers pulling the sleigh. When Santa is a little behind and they need to make time up Blixen is the one who with his determination gets the other Reindeers back on track, Blixen would be excellent at leading the pack to get your presents to you on time.

I hope you enjoyed learning about Santas Christmas Reindeers, I really would love to hear who you would choose to lead the sleigh this year. Let me know who is your favourite Reindeer or do you love them all.

Please feel free to share on Pinterest or any of your social media channels, it would be most appreciated.

So it turns out i don’t know the reindeer names, My little boy is almost three and keeps asking what their names are – he’s like an unwaivering barrister in court “what are their names again?”, “tell me in the exact same order!”. Unbelievable. So thank you, very useful post.xx
