Sex In The City Outfit Feel & Look like Carrie

Finding that perfect outfit for a special occasion

My Sex in the city outfit 9

Why did I need this outfit?

My husband and I were invited to an all-day wedding and this is the story about my sex in the city outfit. The wedding was set in North Yorkshire way up in the moors in the middle of nowhere, with some of the most beautiful views ever. I was unsure what type of outfit I would need to take me from the daytime ceremony to the evening events.

“In Britain and especially Yorkshire, you can never be quite sure what the weather will have in store for you”.

The best part of the wedding day was to take place outdoors, so I wanted something that would suit a Vintage style outdoor wedding as well as the evening do inside the Castle.

The shopping trip from hell

I unbelievably “or should I say stupidly” left my shopping for the perfect outfit until the day before the wedding “nothing new there then”. I had been so busy on the run up to the big wedding day itself , I had left myself one day to find an outfit and my poor husband had to endure many different shops with very little breaks!

we all know how much many men hate intense shopping experiences!

I began to select various dresses from some of the most popular high street stores. I tried on the Classic straight style dress to evening style gowns feeling fat and frumpy in most things or just too old.

Hope was fading fast

I was about to give up all hope, I really did not want to wear an outfit from my wardrobe that had seen far too many weddings and I was desperate for a change.

Me and Mark Driving to the wedding.

I then remembered watching a fashion segment on morning television showing Carrie from Sex in the city style skirts. I had loved them on the models but seriously I could never imagine me having the guts and confidence to wear these myself. I mean these skirts are so different to clothes I generally wear for special occasions.

Then to my Husband’s horror after 4 hours of searching stores, I then started searching for that perfect sex in the city style skirt, the look on his face was priceless!

The Rita Skirt

The Rita Skirt

My Decision

Whilst rushing around I spotted this skirt in Coast, I remember thinking how beautiful it was but also how massive it actually looked. When I asked my husband what he thought, his face spoke a thousand words, quite clearly not over impressed with my thinking.

I took a hold of the skirt and I just knew I had to buy this skirt regardless of the price, I suppose it was love at first sight. I rushed to the changing rooms and changed into the skirt, I felt a little guilty at the time because I loved it so much and I was not used to spending that amount of money on myself.

How did this look make me feel?

I felt like a cross between, Carrie from sex in the city and as if I had been transported back in time to the 1950’s. Each step I took the skirt swished and I just knew that I had found the perfect skirt for a wedding and right on trend.

Only now I started to ask the question, what do I put with this great skirt????

with the fashion segment I had watched in mind, I selected ten tops and tried them all on with the skirt.

sex in the city 4

I selected a pretty lace top with a cute peter pan collar, not really a wedding occasion top, but seemed to work well with the skirt. I felt like I should have been transported back to the 1950’s  on the arm of Elvis Presley.

This is also a top I could wear everyday, very versatile.

We attended the wedding the next day and it was fantastic . I genuinely had the feeling that I was straight out of a movie from the 1950’s.  The outfit looked the part for the day ceremony and gorgeous for the evening event,  I got some lovely comments. I must admit that I was not expecting to be told I looked like Alice from “Alice in wonderland” by my husband and his colleagues.

The Funny Bit

I have to tell you this little story other than about my sex in the city outfit.

You may have noticed the selfies whilst my husband was driving. Let me tell you it’s probably not the best thing to do, when you are behind schedule to get to an event on time and the driver is somewhat stressed ha!

Our plan to head straight to the hotel and change went right out of the window, and with only 15 minutes to go we had to get changed in the field next to the event itself. I thought I would show you some pictures of the place I managed to get ready before the event below.

PS, We didn’t get changed in the tents either, but we did have fun pulling our clothes on in the field!

If you like the skirt I have attached a link to the Coast Website to help you find this stunning skirt.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post, I hope you enjoyed it. If you have any questions at all please don’t hesitate to ask because i love to reply to each comment that is left.

But have to say the skirt is gorgeous! Not sure that it would suit me as I am carrying a little extra (being generous here, like my portion sizes lol) weight after the fourth babe, but the outfit is stunning 🙂 xxx

    Hey there Rachel

I’ve got to say you look stunning! I can see where the ‘Alice in Wonderland’ vibe comments were coming from too. Good job, you guys – getting ready out in the field! I’m a big fan of getting out into the wild spaces of Yorkshire, and that looks like a beautiful settiing for a wedding.

Your husband recommended I check out your blog – it’s a good read, so cheers and all the best

Thank you Maria! I was a little silly leaving it until the last minute, but I am so happy with the outcome. My husband actually became rather supportive and really helped although I think his patience was wearing thin ha! The skirt held up fine and there was very little wind on the day itself.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who does such last minute wedding outfit shopping! That was me about a month ago but thankfully managed to get something I was very happy with it. Think I must work best under pressure!
