Why an MOT Helps You to Maintain Safety at Each Step

July 5, 2019 | Leave a Comment

Car servicing and having an MOT conducted may seem like it is an unnecessary impediment to your usual motoring. However, nothing could be further from the truth because both MOTs and services help to maintain basic road safety. If you were never to have an MOT conducted on your car, then you might be able to continue driving without any significant safety problems. However, some cars on the road would inevitably develop unsafe faults which would have a safety implication for every other road user, of course. Why are regular inspections by qualified mechanics so important for your safety?

Particle Emissions

Modern MOTs check for your fuel emissions to help ensure local air quality is maintained. If you drive in Yorkshire regularly, for instance, then you don’t want lots of vehicles on the road emitting more noxious fumes than they should, so checks must be made. When it comes to your car, excessive fumes can cause respiratory problems for passengers in your car, especially if you drive at slow speeds with the windows open. If you want to get your car MOT tested in the Wakefield area, then go to Ossett Tyre House to make sure your car’s exhaust is in good working order.

Tyres and Brakes

Being able to stop properly when you need to is hugely important for road safety. It’s better to get your car MOT tested in local areas like Wakefield or some other areas in UK. When an MOT is conducted, your brake fluid pressure and brake pads will be checked. In addition, expect the tread of your tyres to be confirmed so you can continue to drive fully reassured of your safety. It makes no difference whether you have an old car that’s seen better days or one of the newer Audi cars, these checks are so important and should not be skipped.

Safety System Checks

When a service or an MOT is conducted, your engine is not the only part that is checked. Your car’s safety systems, such as its seat belts and airbags, should be inspected, too. Without these in good working order, you could suffer a serious injury in the event of even a minor accident on the road. Bear in mind, too, that your car’s hazard warning lights will be checked out, as well, and something you may rely on to warn other drivers of an incident on the road when your car is in trouble.
