Man vs Christmas Tree
I absolutely love Christmas, The shopping, wrapping the presents, handing out the Christmas cards.
I love everything apart from when my husband decides it is time to trim up the house. Like normal households the tree and the trimmings are stored in the loft all year around apart from the few special weeks when they proudly displayed in our living room for all to see.
When it comes to pulling out the tree from the loft, we have it a little bit harder as our loft was turned into a bedroom for my eldest son, so our loft space is a limited amount of space that can only be accessed through a small opening in the wall.
Every year I dread the day my husband declares “It’s time to put up the Christmas tree”.
It is the same every year he squeezes his 6 ft 2″ frame into a teeny hole in the wall, all sorts of words that I cannot repeat coming from his mouth.
When he finally reappears with the tree, trimmings, Santa, Christmas Teddy’s and all things Christmas, he always has a face like thunder, this is only the start and he is already in a foul mood.
Let the Fun commence
The next stage is putting the lights on the tree, not as simple as this sounds as they are always tangled up.
He starts the task of untangling the lights his mood gradually getting worse and his patience slowly slipping away, me filming the whole event and chuckling doesn’t go down very well so this year I just decided to ditch the camera and leave him to it.
Usually it is at this stage when he requires a helper to wrap the lights around the tree, I assist yet always seem to make the job harder and every time I laugh I wind him up even more.
Once the lights are on the tree, I make a sharp exit whilst he creates his masterpiece, Mark is so much more creative than I am and some how he just knows how to dress a tree just so perfectly. Hours pass, he lights candles and switches on his christmas masterpiece for all to see.
It always is worth the moans and groans and not to mention the mess that is left behind for me to clear up.
Every year we add a new decoration to the tree, we have traditional trimmings, Elvis Presley musical singing decorations, Cinderella’s glass slippers, the more you delve in the more unusual and unique baubles and decorations can be found.
Each year it is the same wrestle between Man and Tree, Man always comes out winning but the Christmas Tree doesn’t half put up a good fight!
If you have any great stories I would love to hear what happens in your family home at this time of year!

I’ve given up trees…my cats just DESTROY them. So, Cat vs Tree would be an apt post for me!

Brilliant, You should never give up on your christmas trees though. We have a cat but she really is not interested in the tree.
