So, most of us parents love to watch magic tricks right! I know I have seen many sleight of hand tricks by my sons over the years but often you have to turn a blind eye to the fact you see what they are hiding in their hand. I must say I am not very good at magic at all, so I never been good at actually teaching them properly. My friend is a magician and his tricks are pretty awesome.
My youngest son has always wanted to learn the art of magic “He’s just in to it.” But before he can be the next David Blaine or our very own yorkshire’s Dynamo he will have to spent a little time learning first. We were kindly sent the Box of Shocks by Drummond Park to give our honest thoughts on.
It’s funny how everyone wants to be a Magician when the have the tools and both my son and my husband had a blast using this little The box of shocks and tricks.
The Box of shocks Review
When the box of shocks arrived, I didn’t show my children as I wanted to try to shock them myself. This probably wasn’t the best idea! as I am not that great at this sort of thing believe me. I must say I did have great fun trying some of the tricks and shocks out though.
Every one of these marvellous gags is cunningly designed to take your victim entirely by surprise. You should if done correctly extract that fabulously satisfying shriek that screams out “Gotcha!” quite loud and clear … In my case I did try the tricks out on my family along with my son, who caught me practising”DOH.”
Our first victim was my eldest son who was busy playing a game on his computer. This was ideal as he was a little preoccupied at the time… This would only strengthen my trick, surely. I tried the Snake tin trick from the box of shocks. The tin is made from something that resembles a Pringle’s tin. I walked up chatting and began to pass him the tin. As I did this I gently press the lid on the tin as the instructions taught me and viola he jumped out of his pants.
Ok, there were a few choice words that came out of his mouth but that’s to be expected when someone is totally shocked. He could not believe he had fallen for it. The only thing that I would change is actually using a real endorsed can like the Pringles brand to make it look more authentic. Saying that there are so many styles similar to the Pringle’s brand out there that you could be easily fooled.
Later that evening I also offered my unsuspecting husband a crisp. He did look at the tin to check the flavour but did comment “What make are these?”
I quickly said “Just a take off brand” he bought this. He opened the can and jumped out of his skin when the two green snakes concealed inside flew out. He was terrified and I was in hysterics! ha…
Ok, So I chose quite a simply gag from the box of shocks but I could have chosen any of them and to be honest I think they would have fallen for any of them.
I was sceptical that I would be able to shock the boys with another trick but I tried and was quite successful. Myself and Jake both found a Fabric Pen inside the box of shocks. When my eldest came down for his tea I just had to show him me drawing large black ink line on his jumper!
Tee hee… He had no idea at all. My son actually looked quite annoyed and with it being his school jumper was actually quite distressed! He hates having to buy new jumpers from the School office, so this was the last thing he would have wanted.
In front of him I mimicked drawing a line down the front of his jumper. The fabric pen from the box of shocks worked a treat. He actually thought I had drawn on his top! The red face showed it all. He was quite relieved once he knew the Fabric pen was actually fake.
Later, whilst I was in a mischievous mood I asked my youngest son if he would dare open the snake tin and you can see his reaction below… He still managed to jump although he knew what was inside.
I then decided to change my audience as I was going for a family meal for my Mum and Dad’s 40th Wedding Anniversary. There were 14 members of my family all in one place and this was the perfect opportunity for me to put on a little show.
So, I popped a few Tricks into my bag and I tried the box of shocks out on the youngest members of the group. I mean surely they would fall for my tricks.
Riley the youngest of the group actually turned to me when I got the snake in a tin out and he said “Do you think I am daft I am not opening that” apparently he has this set at home! I was a little upset as I was expecting a scream “Just a small one”…
My Dad’s reaction to the Snake can Trick
I then tried the table behind me with my other sister on and I knew as she detests Ketchup. Therefore I decided to try the Ketchup Bottle trick on her! Cruel, I know. I turned and shouted “SIS” she turned unsuspectingly and I squeezed the Ketchup bottle. The box of shocks ketchup bottle actually has a small red rope inside that when squeezed flies out. Making it look like you squirted red sauce on your victim!
My sister did actually jump backwards and thought I had squirted the contents of the bottle on her. Oh how I laughed..
My Niece Lydia and her reaction to the Spider Box treat
My last trick of the evening was the ingenious spider in a box trick. I chose my niece for this box of shocks. I set the box up with the spider inside (It’s not real for the record.) I placed a small gold coin into the box promising her that it would turn to gold when she opened the white box! As she opened it! the spider flies out of the box instead. Ha ha she actually jumped out of her seat. I got told off at this point by my mother, who did laugh at me afterwards.
