Spending time with your kids outside is great fun and has many benefits to their health as well. They’ll not only benefit from getting active and being in the sun (during the summer months) but it also helps improve their mood and can help them to relax – if they are being a handful, spending time outside could snap them out of their temperament.
The types of activities you can do outside vary massively depending on what your children enjoy doing. If they like to get active and do something adrenaline-linked, stunt scooters could be for them. Alternatively, kicking a ball around the field or spending time down the park could be a different option.
Below is our guide to activities you could do with your kids outside.
Painting with water
Painting often creates a lot of mess and can ruin the nice things within your home. Instead of not doing it at all, why not take the activity outside? You can buy a nice water paint set and head on out to the beach and paint something beautiful and creative together. Painting helps to get your children’s creativity going as well as teach them new skills. You can literally paint anything that they feel inspires them, whether that be the sky, the sea, the countryside, an animal or so on. If you don’t have a paint set, a creative alternative could be drawing and colouring with chalk. Most of your local children’s stores will stock chalk.
Family walk
Sometimes the best way to get active with your children is to visit a new destination and go on a family walk. Visit a local national park or forest where they can run around and explore. Encourage them to climb the trees or make their own treehouse. You can get involved at the same time to make it a family experience. Family walks are a great way to blow off steam and travel the country. You’ll be amazed at all the incredible places that you will discover when exploring new walks. Just make sure you bring a camera, you’ll want to take plenty of photos to capture these special moments. You should also bring a large 1-litre water bottle with you to keep hydrated – especially in the hotter months.
Collect items to make an art collage
Combine the above activity with making an art collage. When going out on your family walk, you can collect different items which you can then take back with you. When you get home, spend some time in the garden putting an art collage together. Encourage them to pick up anything that inspires them as well as to be as creative as they can be. Nothing is wrong, that is the best thing about doing a collage. Plus, you can keep the art collage and bring it out in the future as a special memory of your time out together.
