3 things to do with your kids this summer

July 4, 2019 | Leave a Comment

The summer is finally here, and the sun is (occasionally) out in all its glory. Therefore, an exciting family trip is absolutely called for! It’s time to put the phones and computers down and to get out in the fresh air. You could cast your net far and wide and join the latest craze in interrailing across Europe, or keep things close to home. The choice, as they say, is yours! Of course, if you’re not too creative and you’re craving a truly perfect experience to please the whole family, good ideas can be hard to come by. Luckily for you then, a few pointers can help you below!

City visit

Cities please the whole family very easily. In London alone, you have a range of free museums to visit, some of the world’s best theatre, numerous sightseeing opportunities, top tier restaurants and more. You could even combine some of these suggestions and clamber aboard one of the many Thames river cruises that drift up and down the famous river, seeing sights in the outdoors while wolfing down scrumptious meals. If your kids don’t sit still for long, this can be perfect!  A city visit is perfect for the whole family. It’s where your children can learn about different people, artists, architectures and cultures, and can generally be introduced to a busier and more stimulating way of life than the mundane schedule of recurrent school trips. In the end, a city break can shake them up and show them how big and exciting the world really is

Zoo Trips

Of course, in a city you’ll no doubt find a zoo or two also, especially in London! These places offer quintessential family environments, and your children will be surrounded by kids their own age as they explore. Once again, there’s also a learning element here again too, whether it’s an education on animal welfare or the respect one must show to nature and other life. There’s also the factor of simple pleasures zoos provide too, such as lions being cool to look at and penguins being cute to behold. Some enclosures can be interactive also, whereby families can feed certain animals in a safe and controlled environment together. An exciting experience is guaranteed at a zoo in the summer, so head on down!

Go Camping

Step from the controlled wildlife of the zoo to the real, immersive nature around you – go camping! Grab your tents and camping chairs and leave all your electronics behind (or take some and permit very occasional usage). Surrounded by the trees and the fields, you and the kids can pull together to set up your base, cook food and explore the surrounding areas as a unit. You can pitch a tent and trek around the Lake District or go to a designated camping spot elsewhere for exciting walking trails, zip wires experiences and more. There’s a lot of variety here, and sometimes the thrill of adventure will make you look like a cool mum or dad in the eyes of your kids… well, at least for a week or so anyway!

Your family needs variety over the summer! There’s time and room to do everything your kids enjoy (including playing video games), so don’t be afraid to shake things up for the sake of spontaneity. When your kids are older, they’ll look back at summers spent doing a lot of fun, exciting and different things, and lead richer adult lives for it!
