Home Alone for BritMums! The Husbands Day
Rachel has gone to Britmums – She really does deserve the break. One night away, how will I cope? I ask myself!
Well, let us start from the beginning shall we? I got up nice and early to see Rachel off and to be honest I have never seen a person with so many tasks to complete, cope so well. I take my hat off to her.
I asked Rachel to let me take a photo of her prior to going because in my eyes she looked stunning and I know she will hate me saying that so publicly, but hey what the hell, I thought it so I am telling you guys.
One night alone, being a bit like a single parent with a list of jobs to do and the feeling that I have so little time to complete these jobs. I swear, I must be, jinxed honestly!
Therefore, I would like you to know what has happen from start to finish on my first day! Even if you do not, I have to tell you the story so far…
Forgive my writing skills, the may well not be the most grammatically correct post but I really could not care less right now ha!
Well, I dropped my wife off at the train station ready to go to Britmums. As I drove away, I thought this day was going to be easy, how wrong I was.
What on Earth Happened?
The car was working perfectly, no different from usual until after drop off at the station. I set off driving through quite busy traffic early through Leeds City Centre. I do not know if you have ever driven around Leeds, but other motorists are unforgiving.
They certainly do not like to have vehicle that have broken down or even slowed for a few seconds. I managed to accomplish both of these mishaps prior to dropping my son off at his collage, which is a mere five minute journey from the station. Driving up one road, which had a slight incline to it and guess what, that is right the car started to judder and pretty much, would not go any faster than five miles per hour. I would like to say at this point I was “Bricking it” the traffic was rushing past me, and people beeping their horns. I would like to say at this point to those very nice people “I really dislike you”. That is very reserved I would never use stronger language on this blog, but I think you get the point. The vehicle intermittently sped up and I managed to get my son to collage on time, I did have a little smile to myself at this point. Whilst I parked, up to allow the vehicle to cool down and finally had to start it back up! “Why on earth did I stop”? A further twenty minutes went by and I finally got the heap of junk started, May I say I normally call Rachel but I did not want to bother her.
Once the car started, I finally got it to a local garage, which luckily they had space to take it. The garage is located In the middle of a quite unsavoury area, so I was hoping they would be able to fix this straight away!
You got it, No such luck really. The mechanic opened the spark plug sockets and Water from the engine hit the mechanic in the face, the scream gave away that it was hot. I sighed!
Forgetful Me
I had forgotten my mobile phone as I left the house and I was unable to arrange a lift anywhere. I was therefore stuck in this unsavoury location. I decided to find somewhere to get myself a breakfast. After walking around aimlessly for approximately 1 hour, I found a supermarket and I was so happy, few I thought! This part of the day went fine apart from sitting next to someone who smelt a little bit of stale wee, luckily I had finished my food by then.
I returned to collect my vehicle and the mechanics, although they told me an hour and a half had not even started my job. I thought what the heck; I will just stay in this area until it is finished. I wondered around for a further two hours, I was rather warm, but I suppose other than my feet feeling as though they would drop off it was some form of exercise. Eventually I managed to get in touch with Rachel’s dad who very kindly came to pick me up!
I finally got myself to a place of safety. This was at Rachel’s mum and dads house “Thank god for her parents”.
I finally got the car back and I headed home to make the boys lunch. I recall Rachel speaking about what the boys like to eat, although I did not pay that much attention. I recall her speaking and I recall her telling me, but all I could remember was mumbling and the odd line involving the word chicken “Ha, Chicken, That’s what I will make”.
Making a Nice Lunch or Not!
Let me tell you, chicken is not an easy to cook! I managed to overdo it somehow, I placed it on the Tefal machine thingy and pressed go. Finally, it played a song and at least made a noise and when I got to the chicken, it was hard on the top and bottom. I cut this up and gave it to the boys! My eldest could not tell the difference, he thought it was ok, although I think he was being polite.
Jake on the other hand, was not impressed, and boy did he make me aware of that as always. The best comment was “God, I can’t wait until mum is home” or “Is this chicken overdone, how am I supposed to eat it”? I must say he did enjoy the super noodles that were on the side; unfortunately, Rachel is not keen on making this type of food, as she prefers to cook most things from scratch.
Well, I have loaded the dishwasher (Still working out how to use it though, I think it is working all right), brought the washing in and written this post in the last hour and a half, I must say I am shattered! You
My son has managed to leave the choc-ices out “I wonder how on earth he thinks they will stay frozen, sat on the worktop”.
The Cat
Ah, Even the Cat has managed to throw up after eating her lunch, this means a full kitchen floor clean including attempting to work the steam mop thing! Why would she do this of all days?
And there is more!
Anyway, I have the house to clean now and get the boys ready for tomorrow. I am sure there are other husbands, who may well be going through the same, unless you are just an awesome person who can bloody do everything perfectly.
Have a great time!
I take my hat off to all the Brit Mums & dads and I say enjoy every minute of it! Because if you’re anything like my Rachel, you certainly deserve a fun relaxing time.
