Over the half term school holidays, I was set a challenge to create a show stopping planted aquarium with the help of my son.
We were sent everything we needed from the Tetra range to create a well set-up aquarium and maintain it to create a safe and healthy environment.
I had never set up an aquarium before as this was normally left to my husband who is more experienced than me when it comes to creating and maintaining fish tanks. I must admit I was a little daunted at the thought of creating an aquarium that would house fish and keep them lively and healthy. I did feel reassured that with all the advice on the Tetra website and my son’s enthusiasm that we would get things just right!
The Cascade Globe is a beautifully designed aquarium and is the perfect starting point for those wishing to take up a rewarding hobby, looking for a stylish centerpiece for their home or as a fantastic first pet for children. Aquarium setup and maintenance are great fun and children learn about responsible pet ownership.
The Cascade Globe can be set up for specific species of subtropical fish, freshwater shrimps or plants: crucially those that can live at room temperature water.
We were sent an array of products to get our Aquarium started and to keep it safe and healthy for our aquatic life to thrive in.
Setting up our new aquarium couldn’t have been simpler. We layered the bottom of the bowl with the complete substrate which is a Specially formulated planting substrate, for long-term fertilization and creates an ideal environment for aquatic plants to encourage natural plant growth in the aquarium. To decorate, we added active substrate on top of 4 cm of the complete substrate. This is a plant friendly mixture for your aquarium plants to grow in, with a large surface and porous composition the clay granules that make up the Active Substrate offer many advantages compared to more traditional gravels. It can reduce organic water pollution and will help to avoid soil compaction.
By using this product you will benefit from fast rooting plants as the mixture will provide nutrients to their roots, while the round shape of the gravel will help to avoid any damage to your fish.
With a few drops of Filter active and safe start water and a quick test of the water with the test 6 in 1 strips, we were nearly ready to hit Pets at home for some aquatic plants and a few little surprises!
We found it really difficult to choose aquatic plants as we wanted to make sure the plants were not too big for the Cascade Globe and we wanted them to look lush and green.
We selected 2 small plants for our aquarium, but it didn’t stop there, oh no, my son soon got distracted by a very special range of aquarium ornaments. A range that could only come about once a year, have you guessed what it could be yet?
I think I will let the pictures speak for themselves……
That’s right you can now decorate your aquarium with Snow, Christmas trees and even polar bears and reindeer’s!
We added the fine white gravel to the base of the aquarium to give the illusion of snow and I am sure you will agree it really does appear as if it has been snowing in our Cascade Globe. The Christmas trees we added are magnified through the filtered glass aquarium, everything looks magnified just like the displays at the Sealife centre where the fish look like they are practically coming out towards you!
Our Cascade globe looks like a scene from Narnia, I keep joking I will add a wardrobe door to the pretty little scene we have made in our aquarium. We have created a lovely little home for our fish ‘Bob’ who appears to love his little winter wonderland, especially the cascading waterfall. It looks just like a real life snow globe!
Cascade Globe is an innovative aquarium ideal for fitting into the modern-day busy lifestyle and is a beautiful addition to any home. My favourite part is everything is fitted into just one plug, so no messy plugs and wires here. The upkeep couldn’t be simpler either as you just simply change the filter once a month. The LED lights look spectacular and especially look amazing at night!
A well set-up aquarium with lively, colourful fish is a beautiful sight. Aquarium setup and maintenance are great fun and children learn about responsible pet ownership.
