Tractortastic Castleford Diggerland theme park Review

October 6, 2011 | 3 Comments

I visited recently visited Diggerland in Castleford with my husband and two boys aged 9 and 14. I was a little unsure what to expect before setting off, because I was unsure if Diggerland would suit the ages of my both of my children.
I imagined it to be full of little boys and girls running around in wellington boots playing with rather heavy machinery and if I am honest I was expecting more of a farm yard experience more than anything. As I imagined when we arrived there were plenty of under 5s running around in wellington boots trying out all the attractions and enjoying themselves. I was also quite relieved to see that there were a number of older children also seemingly enjoying Diggerland.

Fun rides at Diggerland

  1. My eldest son Lewis was absolutely enthralled by the ride “Spin dizzy” where like the name suggests you get very dizzy, whilst being spun around and around over and over again ha! The ride also shakes and elevates itself whilst your child is seated in the bucket of a digger controlled by an operator.
  2. There is a JCB digger that takes you off for a ride around a nearby piece of wasteland. All of us got the chance to actually drive a real JCB digger using the controls whilst the driver took the passenger seat and allowed us to drive the tractor freely this was actually pretty incredible.
  3. You were also taken around the same waste land at speed in an old Land rover, you literally would be gripping the seat.
  4. The kids were especially fond of the go-carts and dumper trucks at Diggerland!
  5. Kids get the chance to dig for treasure, drive mini vehicles, drive tractors or just relax and have a ride on the land train.
Diggerland is fantastic. It’s not just aimed at the younger end because it seems to cater for the older children too. Everyone is made to feel welcome at Diggerland as there is no age limit
  • Diggerland Opening times are 10am – 5pm weekend and school holidays and open until 4pm in Feb & Oct.
  • There is a small catering van serving drinks and food and a wonderful hut selling ice creams and all kinds of sweets.
We took a picnic and found plenty of picnic benches to eat our feast, we did nip to the sweet hut after, it was hard not to.
The indoor play area which was for children up to 12 years and packed full of exciting soft play equipment and also had comfy sofas and tables for the parents. The cleanliness of this park was excellent throughout and I was very happy to find the picnic seating area and toilets were very hygienic too. The gift shop is packed full of Diggerland merchandise from clothes to teddy’s and toys and every child when leaving gets a diggerland certificate which I thought was a lovely touch.
Diggerland also do parties and corporate events and also sell gift vouchers a great idea for any digger mad little one! I personally would like to thank the staff for making our day so much fun and exciting they were all super helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend Diggerland for a fantastic day out this school holidays.
