Green Living – How to Really Make a Difference

September 23, 2015 | 1 Comment

Most of us are only too well aware of the importance of the green cause, which has undoubtedly become more prevalent over recent years. Of course, this is something that is very important because of the impact that it has on our health, lives and our planet.

However, while some people take green living extremely seriously and want to make a difference there is often so much hype involved around being eco-friendly that it has become something of a trend in some circles.

There is a lot of superficial hype relating to green living and this has simply resulted in some people believing that they are really making a difference simply by having a cup of green tea or an organic smoothie rather than a cup of coffee. Of course, every little helps when it comes to the environment but in order to make a noticeable difference green living has to be more than just a pretentious trend – it has to affect as many aspects of your life as possible.

How to make a noticeable difference

There are many different ways in which you can make a difference to the environment and our planet, and the more people that get involved in making this bigger changes the better it will be for all of us. For example, huge numbers of us drive cars or other vehicles and in most cases we use non-renewable energy in the form of petrol, which is a fossil fuel and releases large amount of greenhouse gases into the environment. However, you can reduce the impact by looking at a more eco-friendly alternative such as an electric car or a hybrid car.

It is also important to look at factors such as the heating you use at home. Household commonly use gas central heating to warm the home, but this runs off a boiler and can use up a lot of energy. This not only affects the environment but also has a negative impact on your pocket, as it can be costly to install and maintain as well as to use. You can look at alternatives such as the eco-friendly electric radiators from VeriSmart Heating. There are not only more energy efficient and cheaper to run but can also be placed anywhere in the home, making them more convenience to use.

Recycling has become big business these days, and is something that we should all be doing. Local authorities have made it easier for us to recycle household waste by providing separate receptacles for this type of waste. However, you should make sure you recycle as much as you can including items like old electrical gadgets and mobiles, which can be sent into companies such as Mazuma – and you may even get a little cash for them.

There are many others ways in which you can make a difference when it comes to the environment. Switching to organic food when you shop provides you with a convenient and simple way to make a difference, as does re-using carrier bags rather than having new ones each time you shop. You can even make a difference with the clothes that you purchase, as you can look at eco-friendly materials such as recycled polyester or organic cotton.
