Women love the Dad Bod! This man ain’t changing..

May 29, 2015 | 2 Comments

Ok, So I am writing this post on behalf of the guys out there who really don’t care about being categorised with a dad bod….  If it’s not bad enough that most men have been aiming to achieve a physique of a god, then along comes the reality that most ladies don’t give a toss!

So what is a Dad bod?

Mackenzie Pearson a 19 year old student at Clemson University wrote a 500 word piece titled “Why Girls Love the Dad Bod” for her student website The Odyssey. Quoting “The dad bod is not an overweight guy, but it isn’t one with washboard abs, either.”

Dad bod is what happens when a man Leads a rather unhealthy lifestyle, only going to the gym on rare occasions, Instead spending more time and effort on lifting a pint glass and the telephone to order a takeaway! You can see how to actually get yourself a dad bod with the diet here. Why on earth! Just why…

Famous dad bods include Simon Cowell and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Visualise, a sturdy body with a few extra layers of fat than needed, a comfy looking man who is the perfect shape to cuddle into. The dad bod is fun as he isn’t watching his weight or avoiding carbs as he is cutting in. He can be found around the home relaxing and not hard to locate as he is at the gym all the time or their second home as some gym widows would call it!

Maybe, I should introduce myself! I am Rachel’s Husband “Mark”. I decided to write about this new dad bod craze because I have found the term being spread all over the internet at present “FUNNY” and also quite “SAD.”

For the last 6 years I have actually made the effort with myself and accomplished so much in the gym. I started with a typical dad bod, after being with my wife for a long time I let myself go a little bit, and why not! I had nothing to get myself in shape for. I was happy and content with my life and that led to me eating  junk to my heart’s content.

Then one day…

I sighted myself in the mirror, I had changed from having the physique of a well-rounded rugby player to looking like and feeling like Mr Blobby… The funny thing was I didn’t see that I was looking so unhealthy at the time, having not only a bloated mid-drift but a grey complexion too.

Ok before we go any further.. Below is an image of me looking a little weightier…. in 2001.

That’s me on the right next to Rachel!

I can’t say I resemble an Adonis now! but I think that I look and feel better than I did. Now I find the term dad bod quite insulting as we as human beings all have our hang-ups about ourselves and for us to be categorised in the “FIT” or “dad bod” categories is ridiculous.

We all have our own styles and appearance and before we go any further, Lifestyle changes are a choice and not something some gym pumper of a teen should be categorising the older generation with the term….  The funny thing is, the person who actually came up with the term is probably extremely insecure and (IF THEY DON’T ALREADY) will end up feeling comfortable and in love one day making them too have a little lose fat around the midriff too.

Me now in a better shape! and I feel much healthier!

If you have a dad bod, so what! Enjoy your life with your loved ones and family and feel comfortable whatever shape you are, as long as you are healthy that is!

In my opinion women want a dad bod because it reminds them that they have a man who comes home, are simply in love with them and doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone else.

Saying all this, After years at the gym I could not go back to my old ways and become the dad bod women are apparently craving, I don’t think my wife would want me this way either!

Sorry for the rant, but I thought I would share my thoughts on the dad bod craze… How do you feel about the dad bod, How do you prefer your man?

I dont think its about the dad bod, probably just that this is more the average man and when you fall for someone their body is something that just comes with them, i think women would not be being true to themselves if they did not say that they wanted their man to be healthy and fIt that doesnt mean a washboard but would definitely be more than a dad bod!

Thank you Kate… That’s really true! You fall for the personality not the body surely.. I am guessing the dad bod comes in many shapes and sizes.. X
