My Birthday Surprise… With a twist!
The Reason for the surprise!
Yesterday my husband celebrated his Birthday, I normally buy Birthday gifts way in advance, but this year I had left the Birthday buying way too late. All he wanted for Christmas was a PS4, although he knew there wasn’t a cat in hells chance of getting one, unless Santa actually came to our house himself with one!
He has gone on about wanting a PS4 practically every day since Christmas, see his post he wrote on PS4 Envy
He has told me that he is only joking when he goes on and on about getting a PS4 and definitely not hinting!
It has been really funny as every time a parcel arrives or I come home with shopping bags, he jokes around saying “that’s too small to be my PS4 for my Birthday”.
The Presents!
It was a few days before his birthday when I realised all I had to wrap for him was socks, boxers and some scratch cards. February for us has lots of occasions 2 Birthdays, Valentines day and our wedding Anniversary, so gifts are normally not too lavish but not as basic as socks and pants!
Now the Surprise!
So in a spur of the moment click of a button whilst making lunch, I purchased a PS4. It was about an hour later when I realized just how much I had spent… Oops!
The only downside to my new purchase apart from the price, was the delivery date was valentines day which is 5 days after his Birthday. With this in mind, I decided to have a little bit of fun and play a little prank on him.
The Prank!
I set about finding a box and constructing a PS4 out of cardboard, I think you will agree, a pretty close likeness. For additional effect I purchased my husband a PS4 game and placed it inside the cardboard PS4 and the game fits perfectly inside the slot. I then wrapped this wonderful creation up placing this in his pile of presents!
His Reaction!
The next morning my husband awoke and came down to open his presents in front of me and the boys after opening all of the real present’s I decided to hand him the wrapped PS4.
He began to shake the present and began to open it, once inside he was greeted by my PS4. He looked at it for a short while whilst we were laughing. He then looked up and said “although that’s cruel, it’s very funny”. After a few minutes I said look inside the PS4 he did and there was his favorite game sat inside. Now most people would have put two and two together and realised that the game was for the PS4 but he didn’t. I finally pointed out that he had a PS4 on its way and he will be getting it within the week.

Speechless
He was speechless, but looked absolutely chuffed to bits and, not surprisingly the kid’s did too. They thought it was all a prank, which is funny because all they did was roll around laughing at my husband before they finally found out (Is that a double prank).
It was great to spring such a nice and funny surprise on him, don’t know how I will top it next year though!
I would love to hear some of your thoughts, and really love to hear some of your surprise stories.

That was a little cruel but very funny – glad to hear the real thing is in its way 🙂
Ha, he is more than happy about his new PS4 coming. I have never seen him get up and down so much awaiting the delivery, Literally every knock at the door has him running, it’s not even due until Friday.
Ps. I kind of felt cruel at the time!
That is brilliant!
That was awesome! My husbands birthday is Monday and I am going to surprise him with a PS4. He has been wanting one for a while as well but I always complain about the price so he let it go and is definitely not expecting it. I have been going back and forth on how I should surprise him. I have 3 ideas in mind but I am not sure. I have ben wondering what is better, to be completely surprised or to build up anticipation to the surprise. Let me know what you think.
1) Have the ps4 wrapped in the living room. He will see it when he wakes up and be completely surprised.
2) Setup the ps4 and have the game on the screen waiting to be played so he will see it when he walks in the living room
3) Send him a picture of a new game I bought, he will tell me I got the wrong game because it says PS4. I will text him back saying something like “really, I could have known we had a PS4 in the living room” this will of course build his anticipation and Im sure he will go running into the living room
4) With the above 3 I will not be able to see his reaction as he works from home and I will be at work. The other thing I can do is have it inside a big box from the post office and when I get home ask him if he could help me open the box. Then he will see it and I will get to see his reaction.
Number 4 all day long! You deserve to see his reaction and I am sure he will not mind one little bit the fact you waited until you get home. PS although I do love the other ideas too, please please let me know how you eventually do it.
