Five Ways To Make WFH Productive

September 24, 2021 | Leave a Comment

You can make a huge difference in your ability when Working From Home if you set up the right environment. Because you spend so much time there, making it productive is very important.

Despite this, you may not find what works for others. The perfect home office setup is easy with these five tried-and-tested ideas.

The Right Equipment

Think about investing in a proper desk and chair if you thrive in a traditional work environment. After all, this will be the center of your home office, and it’s where you’ll be spending most of your time.

You can work from other places around the house with a laptop if that’s more practical for your work. If you frequently cross-reference spreadsheets or do research, a second monitor is handy. You may also want to look at a guide to VOIP phones.

The Lighting

There is much talk about how natural light can improve productivity and concentration. You may want to consider getting a daylight lamp if your home office isn’t near a window or you work late in the day.

In the event that you choose not to use a daylight lamp, make sure your home lighting isn’t too bright or too dark, since either will cause you to feel sleepy or strain your eyes.

Working From Home – Remember To Move Around

It’s not necessary to set up a small home office with a large desk all the time – but that’s the standard type of setup most people think of when they imagine a home office.

Having an area where you can store important work documents is a good idea, but that doesn’t mean you should spend all your time at your desk. In sunny weather, you can even work from the garden if you like. Ensure that you are comfortable so that you can concentrate on your task.

Working From Home – Avoid Distractions

The tendency to get distracted when working from home is well known to anyone who has ever worked from home. There will never be enough time to do the laundry, walk the dog or address other little things that keep popping into your head as you attempt to get work done.

The convenience of having your home office in a separate room makes it easier to focus on work when you can close the door. Those who like to sit on a sofa or wander about will find it much more challenging.

When you have pets, children, or even partners who might prove distracting, calming music can help calm them down. Consider organizing the room where you’re going to work the night before so that you won’t begin it when you have a full inbox of unopened emails.

Keep Work And Home Life Separate

It can be challenging to master this when working at home. Compartmentalizing work is much easier if you have a separate work area. You can still try other options if space is an issue.

Establish a routine that includes exercise every day, ideally before and after work. When you walk around the block for 15 minutes, you create a buffer between your work and your personal life. Make sure that you schedule regular breaks. Take your lunch at a regular time and schedule regular breaks throughout the day. You will have more energy and feel more productive as a result.
