Tips on How to Use Natural Materials to Create Serenity in Your Home

May 24, 2019 | Leave a Comment

Bringing a touch of the outdoors into your home is a sure-fire way to introduce vitality, richness and tranquillity into your living spaces. Organic products and natural designs work wonders in inducing a sense of calm and peace that’s so important amidst the hecticness of day-to-day life.
So if you’re considering overhauling your current décor or just wish to add a few pieces to bring a sense of serenity to your home, here are some tips on how to decorate your home with natural products:

Brick Feature Walls

While bricks aren’t technically ‘natural’ as the majority are handmade, they do still boast that rustic, untouched vibe that’s important in natural décor. Not only that but bricks are perfect for adding layers of texture to a room, which is why they create the ideal feature wall.
If you’re lucky enough to have exposed bricks in your home already (or you can easily get back to bare brick), that’s great. But if the thought of building walls in your home sounds too stressful, there is a number of wallpaper designs that look just as good as the real thing.

Wooden Furniture

When it comes to the furniture you choose, nothing oozes ‘natural’ more than wooden pieces – the more rustic the better! From cute benches in your hallway to imposing sideboards in your living space, there are so many ways you can add wooden furniture to your home while creating that all-important impact. Or, if you are feeling particularly creative, you could even have a go at making your own. Think re-purposed pallets as tables, old chests restored as coffee tables and antique ladders for towel rails. The possibilities are endless!

Plant Life

If you’re really going to bring the outdoors in, it’s important to have plenty of plant life around your home. House plants won’t just make you feel as though you’re living amongst nature but they are also proven to help improve the atmosphere in your home by getting rid of toxins. Plus, they can alleviate stress. That’s why they’re great for having in offices and living spaces. Don’t forget some floral notes too – real flowers if possible, rather than artificial. Flowers add instant cheer to a room, whether that’s a bouquet you get once a week or you find easy- to-manage succulents in plant pots.

Natural Light

Finally, there’s nothing as natural as sunlight. And bathing your home in the sun’s rays is the ideal way to rejuvenate and inspire you and your family while bringing life to your home. Look for ways you can encourage daylight in through your windows, whether that’s by installing sheer curtains at your window or changing out those windows for larger patio doors. Ultimately, injecting natural qualities into your home needn’t cost you a fortune. Rather, it’s all about being clever with your décor and looking for natural features that can really enhance each space.
