Better Breakfast For The Whole Family

March 16, 2022 | Leave a Comment

People always say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But is it the most important meal in your family?

Mornings can be a frantic time in the family home. Between sleeping in and the mad dash to get everyone ready for school and work, there isn’t always much time left for breakfast. A quick slice of toast or a cereal bar ends up being the norm for a lot of people.

Starting the day with a good breakfast has a lot of benefits, and if you’re looking to get healthier as a family, breakfast is one of the first things to look at to help you make better choices.

Give your family the best start to the day with better breakfasts for everyone. Here are some tips to help make it happen.

Why is breakfast so important?

Some people are quite happy to skip breakfast. Skipping a meal is never advisable, but breakfast is actually more essential than you realise. So why is that?

  • Breakfast literally ‘breaks your fast’. After going as much as 12 hours without food, it’s what gets your body going after a night of sleep.
  • It will kickstart your glucose levels, giving you energy for the day.
  • It also boosts your metabolism, helping you burn calories throughout the day.
  • It’s an opportunity to get some of your daily nutrients in early.
  • Waiting until lunchtime can affect your focus, affecting your performance at work and school.

With so many benefits, breakfast can get the whole family’s day off to a better start

Wake up earlier to make sure you have enough time for breakfast

If mornings are usually a rush with little time for breakfast, you need to take another look at your habits to see what changes can be made. Start by getting up earlier so that you have enough time to do everything that needs doing.
Stop the morning panic by getting more organised. From putting clothes out the night before to sorting the dishes before you go to bed, find ways to get on top of things to make mornings a little easier to manage.

A good breakfast doesn’t have to take ages to make

Everyone loves convenience, which is why classic breakfast items like pastries and cereal are so popular. But it doesn’t have to take very long to make a healthy breakfast.

There are a lot of quick and healthy breakfast ideas you can start adding to your morning routine. Eggs are one of the ultimate breakfast foods and cook quickly, giving you plenty of great options.

A smoothie can also be a good option to start the day. If you buy frozen or pre-prepared fruit, you’ll save yourself a lot of chopping time for a breakfast that’s ready in just a few minutes.

And don’t forget the coffee! Making a good coffee at home will save you money and help you spend less on takeaway coffee every day. Sage coffee machines are a popular choice to help you get delicious coffee from your very own kitchen. Get a travel mug and take it with you!

Have some tasty to-go options, just in case

Not every morning is going to be perfect. There will still be mornings where everyone has slept in, or something happens that derails the morning. But that’s ok. You can prepare for these busy mornings by having some tasty to-go breakfast options, just in case.

Porridge pots and overnight oats are great for this sort of thing. You can eat them on the go, and can still make sure you’ve got a healthy option to give you your morning energy boost.

Plan ahead and save time

One of the ways to find success with healthier eating is to meal prep. Planning and preparing food ahead of time can help you get ahead of the week, and ensures you’ve got healthy options waiting for you for every meal.

Breakfast is a simple meal to plan in advance. You can make some big batch breakfasts that can be kept in the fridge or freezer ready for when you need them, ideal for doing on a Sunday. Even prepping some of the ingredients can make it a little easier to get ahead, saving you some time in the morning while still ensuring a tasty breakfast.

Make it fun

Breakfast time can be a lot of fun, especially if the whole family eat together. Get some music on and fill the house with light to make things energetic and to get the whole family excited for the day ahead. Having a few handy gadgets can also make breakfast more fun for everyone. A waffle maker or a crêpe machine could be perfect to add a little excitement to breakfast, as well as some different options for breakfast meals.

Teach the kids to make their own breakfast

There are a lot of benefits to cooking with the kids, and breakfast can be a good place to start. Teaching your kids to make their own breakfast will save you some time, but it will also teach them a little more about healthy eating and why different foods are important.

Make sure there are different options available to them and be there to supervise if they’re going to be using any heat or sharp objects.

Make the most of breakfast on the weekend

Leisurely weekend breakfasts are pretty amazing, and they could be a good be a great way to spend time as a family. Spend a little more time cooking up something special and really take your time to enjoy it. It could be a good way to catch up on everyone’s week and maybe the only time you spend together, with everyone heading off for their weekend plans. Even if you go out for breakfast, it can still be a good way to bring some structure to your weekend.

And there you have it! With the help of some simple tips, breakfasts can soon be better for the whole family. Think of some tasty recipes and start planning healthier, happier breakfasts you can all enjoy.
