When it comes to home decor, I generally have the final say on the style in our home. Although, my husband has good taste we both seem to have completely different opinions on home decor styles. My husband is all for modern lines and comfort whilst I prefer a more vintage eclectic style.
I have put together my dream living room which has a very romantic and vintage feel to it. Mixing different textured fabrics and prints, vintage accessories and handmade recycled furniture has helped me create a look that suits my taste and personality perfectly. My creation has been inspired by a Wallpaper print called ‘Northern Rose’.
I have recently become a blog ambassador for Graham and Brown who have chosen their unique Northern Rose design as wallpaper of the year for 2015.
This stunning Northern Rose wallpaper designed with lush embellishments, in a blue and pink rose design really suits my taste, whilst not particularly my husbands. If I was to decorate my living room to suit my taste, I would cover my chimney breast with the Northern Rose wallpaper as the main focal point in my living room.
I would keep my surrounding walls a simple pale colour maybe a light grey or baby blue to compliment the feature wall itself. The flooring would be covered in light oak wood and my windows would be dressed with simple long flowing pale unpatterned curtains.
It would be out with the masculine style leather sofa we have at the moment and in with a more feminine style sofa to compliment the home decor to suit my style and taste. My dream sofa has always been a soft real leather or fabric Chesterfield with a matching high winged back chair, just like the one my parents had when I was growing up. I have a compiled a list of home decor must haves for my home and to assist with my vision I have created a Feeling Rosey home decor Moodboard.
Creating a Home Decor Mirror wall
- To create my mirrored wall I would search charity shops, antique fairs and car boot sales to collect mirrors of all shapes and sizes from different eras. I would place them randomly to create a mirror wall that is glamorous and really eye catching. If you shop savvy I am sure anyone would be able to create a wall of mirrors for a fraction of the cost of purchasing new items.
Family Photos – Past and present
- I love having photographs on display, especially of my children from when they were babies to how they look today as young men. Lately, I have thought about having photographs of my extended family and displaying them in random frames that I have either painted or restored. I would love to have images of my parents and grandparents from when they were younger on my walls. Mixing the old black and white photographs in with my current family photographs to create a memory wall or display that really adds a little love and some history to my home decor. A wall or display area like this would look fantastic as a contrast next to the Northern Rose wallpaper on my chimney breast.
Adding character to my home decor
- Adding vintage style pieces in my home would add some real character to my home decor. I would love to find old suitcases to use as a side table to hold a lamp or a simple photo frame. Little touches such as a vintage tea set and old books would add extra character and charm to my living room. Fresh flowers in old recycled jars add a simple yet elegant touch to any home decor. To create a feel of luxury and comfort to the room I always add a mixture of non matching cushions and throws. I particularly love the Butterfly Array Cushion which I am lucky to have already, It really adds a springtime feel to your home and can also update an old chair or sofa instantly.
Upcycling furniture
- I really love it when I see furniture that has been handmade from recycled goods. I normally purchase new furniture, yet lately I am enjoying restoring old furniture to use as statement pieces in my home. Many items which other people class as junk can be restored simply with a lick of paint. With a little imagination and hard labour you can make a piece of furniture that is totally unique to you. I would like to make a shabby chic style desk in my living room, giving me my own personal space to work from. Customizing and upcycling furniture is easier than you might think, I will be writing about how I do this in the near future.
This look will probably always be my dream as It would be far too feminine for my husband and two teenage boys in our home, but a girl can dream.
Would the Northern Rose design be something that you would love in your home?

yes, i love vintage and feminine, my hubby is all for white walls and minimalism, guess who gets their way. x
I love vintage. My neighbor had an antique long curved back couch and love seat with a fur rug in a room with curved windows over looking her garden. Stunning!
Dee, vintage is so good. I love to use antique pieces to make my home decor stand out from the norm.
