My home is a complete reflection of me and my personality, a little bit different, unorthodox and eclectic. Since my home suffered a flood in January, I have been decorating and searching for one off and unusual pieces to complement my home decor. I just want to make my house a home which I can be proud of again and show off!
I am a brand ambassador for Graham and Brown. Each month we look at a different design element and this time we’re talking about all things Precious.
“Precious is an appreciation for all things vintage and antique. Whether you are redecorating, buying a few wall art pieces, or simply making a statement of your attic treasures, make sure you have fun with this one. Create your very own museum of you, full of memories.” – The Precious Trend
I am changing the home decor in almost every room in my home. To update the looks I am switching some of my most precious items to different rooms. Matching the home decor style in these rooms to each of my special items, that mean so much to me.
In my lounge, I have updated my feature chimney breast and given it a luxurious, retro feel with a stunning Wallpaper Mirror Mirror Twilight by Graham and Brown. This is a real eye catcher when guests come to visit. Reflecting light into the room, this mirror wallpaper will seem to react to times of the day, marking a progression from day to night.
I have added a desk area in my lounge, using a vintage work bench that has been sitting in my Father’s garage for the past 20 years. It was originally used in a factory making parts for aeroplanes and has all the original markings engraved into the wood.
I am not changing anything to this stunning piece as I want the original character to shine through and add an eclectic feel to my home decor. To add an even more vintage and precious feel to the area. I have added second hand, hardback history books found in a charity shop, trinkets and objects that have been in my bedroom and landing and now have a new home on my industrial desk in my living room.
To give the area a touch of my personality. I have added my most prized possession in my home, my family scrabble picture.
This is my original scrabble board from when I was a child, which my husband has cleverly turned into a family scrabble picture by adding all our names from scrabble pieces and placing it in a frame. Amazingly, we all fit together perfectly!
I decided to play with adding old and new items together and finding a way to make them complement each other perfectly. Sticking with the vintage theme and complementing our homemade scrabble picture, I added an oversized, vintage themed Castle Key from Graham and Brown to my wall space.
This combines elegance and texture by creating a visually intriguing piece for my wall. A real talking point, imagine the stories you could create to tell your children about the history of the key. And have a little fun with them!
By mixing home accessories with the old industrial desk. I have used old and new items including vintage style trinkets, bottles and books.
On the wall I have added a modern, quirky lit arrow as a wonderful feature sitting nicely above the desk. This illuminating wall art adds a playful touch to my new home decor style in my lounge. It’s not quite finished yet, but I think you can see where I am going with the idea! I am going to add even more pretty, quirky items to this area as it evolves.
I have lots of ideas and I plan on making a picture wall. This will feature not only pictures of my immediate family, but pictures of our extended family and ancestors too. I really like the ideas of having our own visual family tree and little piece of history in my home.
My living room is still a work in progress and very different to my former room which was sadly ruined by the Water damage in January. I cannot wait to see and show you the finished new look in the near future!

I would love to hear your thoughts about our new industrial desk. Do you like the colour? or would you change anything about it!
I would also like to hear about what’s precious in your family home?
Your desk area looks amazing! I love how it combines both the old and new and that arrow is a real focal point
