We all love to try out new cosmetics from time to time and recently I decided to try out the make up brand, Benefit, for the first time. I’d heard so much hype about it from everyone around me and needed to find out what I was missing out on. When you go out shopping, 9 times out of 10 you’re most likely to see a Benefit counter with all of it’s brightly coloured boxes with unique names shimmering in front of you. I used some sample products to give them a try, so let’s see what I thought!
I decided to test out 4 different products:
- High Beam (highlighter)
- Total Moisture (facial cream)
- That Gal (Primer)
- Coralista (Lip gloss)
high beam
high beam is a satiny pink highlighter that creates the natural glow you’ve always wanted. To use this product, you simply dot the brush on your brow bones, cheek bones and wherever you feel like you need a little bit of a highlight, it’s really easy to apply and glides smoothly across the skin. In the past I’ve used a few highlighters but this one suits my fair complexion most and isn’t too shiny. A little really does go a long way and it doesn’t cake up skin compared to powdered highlighters. I love the fact that I can use this product wherever I feel like it’s needed. Mixing High Beam with moisturiser or foundation can give you an all over radiant look, which looks great in summer time if you struggle with getting a natural glow. The bottle will last for quite a long time and it’s great value for that reason, at £19.50.

Total Moisture
Total moisture is a facial cream used to hydrate skin and give it an extra boost. I’ve used many moisturisers before as there are so many on the market. It’s difficult to choose the right one for your skin type due to some being misleading. I have combination skin so it can sometimes be challenging to find the perfect one as I’m worried that some may make my face too oily. This face cream is targeted at people with dry to normal skin, which contains tri-radiance complex to help develop the skin’s reserves of water. I was a little worried about using it before applying my makeup, however, I used little amounts on places where my skin is most dry and left it for about 10 minutes to soak in. The Benefit cream smells lovely and comes in an adorable bottle that definitely appeals to the eye. The ingredients include mango butter and natural plants with no harsh chemicals so it’s kind to skin. The cream soaks in fantastically compared to a lot of creams I have previously used and doesn’t leave my skin oily instead smooth and hydrated which is fantastic and refreshing. For a full-sized bottle it’s £29.50 which can seem pricey to a lot of people, however it’s one of the best moisturisers I’ve found that gives long-lasting outcomes.
That Gal
That Gal is Benefit’s brightening face primer that you can either wear alone or under makeup, it’s used for giving you an even skin tone and to keep makeup on for longer. All you need to do is rub it into your skin in an even, upward motion until it’s all soaked up. I wore this product underneath my makeup and found that it provided a good base and I could easily apply my foundation. However, I have used some other primers that have made my skin a lot softer, and cost half the price. It’s a very creamy texture but still light so it doesn’t make your face feel oily or caked on. I’m personally not a fan of primers because I feel like I don’t need them but it’s great for people who don’t enjoy wearing makeup and they can quickly put some primer on, get up and go. That gal costs £22.50, which is a lot of money for something people may not notice you wear but can be good for summer time if you don’t want a full face of makeup.
Coralista Lipgloss
Coralista is one of Benefit’s favourite lip glosses, It’s a sheer coral colour and is really simple to apply. I always wear lip gloss with my makeup and have tried so many, I found that this made my lips look plump and gave a strong shine. However, I came across a few problems with this lip gloss, I personally found that it was quite sticky compared to others I’d used which can get frustrating for people with longer hair. Another issue was it kept coming off really fast and you’d have to reapply many times throughout the day, which made me think that it wouldn’t last very long. Benefit is selling this for £14.50, It does smell great and gives a great gleam but may be better over lipstick.
Overall, I found my Benefit experience enjoyable. Some of the items, without a doubt, I’d buy again because they’re better than products I’ve used in the past. Benefit make sure they have great quality which is why they’re on the pricey side but I know that most of the products would last me a long time as you don’t need to use a massive amount in one application. I’d certainly recommend Benefit as there seems to be something for everyone, with such a selection of products all packaged in a fun way. They make great stocking fillers and are for all age groups. I can’t wait to try out some more!
