A classic family style board game that has actually been around since the 1970’s. This time one of the best board games around Hotel Tycoon has now got even better with a stunning new design! The aim of the game is to become a Tycoon, owning the most hotels and land and in the end being the most filthy rich player left in the game.
In our home my boys and hubby are all big gamers, every gen console you can think of between them they have. We all visited EGX in London in September to find out what new games would be coming out for 2014 and 2015. Whilst wandering through all the latest console gaming areas we came across the Esdevium games area, which was a breath of fresh air at the event. An area full of some of the best board games available, a real chance to try out some old and new games that do not require a plug or batteries!
Thanks to Esdevium games, we were sent Hotel Tycoon, a board game to try out as a family and give our honest thoughts, so it was controllers down and dice at the ready!
Board Games forever!
I am a big Monopoly fan and love ruthless money hungry games, where I can become a millionairess and be the proud owner of multiple properties (even if it is just for 40 minutes or so). As a child I played board games with whoever I could find to challenge me. I did earn myself the title of the ‘Queen of games’ as there wasn’t a game of Monopoly I didn’t win, even if some of the time I did cheat (I admitted it, 25 years later!).
In my home now, have always made sure my childrens cupboards are filled with board games Including Frustration , Monopoly and Scrabble to name but a few. So my children have grown up playing games, learning sometimes you win and sometimes you lose (When they play me, they lose). In all honesty, I find board games teach children how to interact increasing their social skills whilst learning in many ways to use their minds.
Setting up Hotel Tycoon
Setting up the game was pretty straightforward although a little time consuming. We had to build some of the cardboard & plastic 3D buildings before we began, typically I got this job whilst the kids grabbed some snacks.
Hotel Tycoon for Gameplay & fun
The game is visually stunning, infact in my opinion one of the most interesting and colourful looking board games on the market. The game is aimed at players aged 8 and up and suitable for 2-4 players. We tried playing with only 2 players, but found it much more exciting with 3 and 4 players. Obviously the more players you have the more properties and action there was on the board. Hotel Tycoon is a strategy based game and personal I like these types of games because they test your forward thinking skills. With a roll of the dice our game began, becoming a land owner then buying hotel buildings, the game was straight forward and easy to understand. From start to finish our game took about 1 hour before we had our winner. The last man standing was my youngest son Jake who left us all bankrupt (I think he cheats too) and he was looking pretty smug about his victorious win. As a parent I could clearly see my children enjoyed this game so much! We have made a pact to make sure we play board games every Saturday night because of the amount of laughter and fun we had.
If you fancy trying a new board game to have some fun with the kids, then I thoroughly recommend this game for the family you can get more information here at Hotel Tycoon, Infact my 12 year old son gave it a 9 out of 10!
