Winter can be a difficult time for families, particularly parents trying to find ways of keeping their kids entertained. The colder temperatures and wetter conditions put a lot of people off going outdoors but there are still loads of great activities you can do; you just need to know where to look. I’ve put together a guide to show you some of the best days out ideas for you and your family. They’ll not only keep the kids entertained but you as well!
Brave the great outdoors
If you’re feeling brave, you can still head outdoors into the countryside. Surprisingly, it isn’t always miserable weather over the winter months, so you need to keep an eye on the forecast for a break in the weather. You can always take your bikes out to avoid the mud. There are also tricycles which are the three-wheeled alternative. There’s a great range of folded tricycles from Jorvik that allow you to simply fold them away for easy transport in the car. Sometimes kids tend to prefer tricycles as they give them a bit of extra safety.
Find a local museum
We’re very lucky to have a number of amazing museums all over the country. From London’s famous art galleries to Manchester’s football museum and the Royal Armories in Leeds for the history lovers, there’s something for all tastes. All you need to do is type “museums near me” into Google and see what’s local. You’ll find that some are free, and others may cost a small fee to help with the upkeep of the museum.
Head to a farm
Another outdoor activity but one that is always enjoyed by kids. There’s an abundance of local farms that you can find where you can feed the animals and your kids can get up close and personal to their farmyard favorite. Not only is it a great day out, but your also supporting farms that rely on the money to keep running and also getting behind local businesses.
Indoor Play Parks
There are loads of indoor play parks ranging from water parks to soft play areas and swimming centers. It’s a great way to get the kids using up some of that built up energy and more often than not, it’s fun for the parents too, particularly the water parks where you can even relax in the hot tub whilst you’re kids fly down the slides unless you fancy a piece of the fun as well!
Sea Life Centres
Everyone loves a trip to the seaside and one of the main attractions is the Sea Life Centres. The oceans are something we know little about, so the opportunity to see some of the oceans many creatures close up is awesome. In most, there’s even a small area where kids can go and touch some of the smaller animals. You can also often watch a Sea Lion or Penguin feeding show which is fascinating to watch how it’s all done. These are some of the best days out you can take part in across the UK.
