#SHEHELPED My Mum An Amazing Women in my life

March 14, 2016 | 134 Comments

When I was approached by Canesten to talk about a woman in my life who had helped or inspired me for the #SHEHELPED Campaign, I knew straight away the perfect woman as she has done both.

The Lady who Inspires Me #SHEHELPED

#SHEHELPED My Mum - An Amazing Women in my life

My Mum has devoted her life to bringing up me and my two sisters showing us unconditional love every single day and putting us first before herself. My Mum has brought me up with a fantastic understanding of what it is to be loved and has taught me how to love others and become the Mum I am today. When I was 17, I had the difficult task of telling my Mum that I was pregnant. Instead of judging me she showed me nothing but love all the way through the pregnancy supporting me by attending all my antenatal appointments and the scans and most importantly was there with me throughout the delivery and it lasted a whopping 28 hours!

The really hard work came when my son was born and then my Mum really excelled herself helping with the night feeds, bathing, taking him out for walks and all of the everyday tasks you have as a new Mum. When my son became a toddler I even went back to work as a travel agent whilst my mum took care of my son and encouraged me to still have a social life with my friends.

My Mum is still the perfect Nanna 19 years on and has a fantastic relationship with both her grandsons. I can always call on her for help and guidance day or night, she has helped and supported me through years of Ill health and is just a phone call away when I need to let off steam or just for a good old natter. My Mum is an amazing woman and the best role model a young girl could have had.

The campaign encompasses the #SheHelped theme, which is based around promoting the small and big things that women do every day to help other women.
This campaign is centred on honouring women. Canesten want to hear about amazing women everywhere.
They are committed to constantly finding new ways of supporting women to lead healthy fulfilling lives and encourage women to help each other, share knowledge and advice.

Canesten help women around the world, providing education and solutions for their intimate health. They also want to help those women who are less fortunate than most of us. That is why they wanted to support, in any way we could, refugee women affected by the Middle East crisis who are living in sub-standard conditions in camps and settlements in various countries. Canesten offered a substantial donation of Canesten thrush products (around £320,000 worth) to International Health Partners, Europe’s largest charity coordinator that organises the safe and responsible donation of medical products and supplies to developing countries.

’This post has been supported by Canesten, but all thoughts are my own’.

The woman that inspired and helped me was my babysitter growing up. She took amazing care of me, knowing I came from a very physically abusive family. She made sure I was feed well, given plenty of time to interact with her and her husband. They taught me how to garden. always gave me gifts and made sure that I knew I was loved. All the things I never received from my own family, so I’ll always be grateful for her x

My mum. She had breast cancer the first time when she was just 32. She had a mastectomy with no reconstruction. When the cancer appeared in her other breast when she Was 58 and was offered a reconstruction of both breasts she turned it down, I asked her why she didn’t have it done when she Was young, she said she was just grateful to be going home alive to see her 3 daughters grow up. She sadly died when she was 60. I’m about to have a preventative mastectomy myself next week and whenever I falter I think of those words and it keeps me strong.

#Shehelped my amazing mum, she ran away with four of us from an abusive Marriage,, homeless she raised us. She found everything for us and gave us all we needed, when 16 I was attacked in Turkey my mum was there for me, a hand to hold. My sister was ill and my mum was there to take on and raise her son (grandson) …. Last week my youngest aged 2 daughter choked and had a fit was the scariest moment of my life…. My mum took her into her arms and saved her life as I was in panic, I still have nightmares as it was so scary and traumatic ambulance and all we nearly lost her if it wasn’t for my amazing mum who saved her life. I owe her so much she’s my world and inspiration in so many ways words just can’t describe. She deserves a treat xxx

#SHEHELPED The best thing about my Mum is her bravery and tenacity. She has been through so much in her life, including being left a single mother when my Dad died. She never complains, and is always there for anyone. She’s never got any money because she will invariably give her last pound to someone who needs it. My dream is to be in a financial position to look after her for a change. I’m not ashamed to say that she is my heroine and the person I look up to the most in this world. No matter that I am an adult and a mother myself, I am proud to say that. She’s not perfect, I know that, like the fact that every piece of advice she has ever given me (especially in regards to parenting), has
been 100% spot on is pretty annoying.

#SHEHELPED For me, the woman who has left a lasting impact on me and who I carry in my head and my heart everyday is my maternal grandmother.

She died almost 18 years ago. This means I have lived the same amount of time without her now as I lived with her in my life. How is it then that I still remember everything about her? Those memories are as vivid now as they were the day she died.

Did she have an extraordinary career? No she did not. Was she famous? No she was not. Was she an international peacekeeper? No she was not. She was however, many wonderful things and above all, she was a strong matriarch.

She had so many qualities I thought were vital for a woman to have. She was fiercely independent, she was determined, she was loving and caring, she would help anyone, she was a fixer, she was honest, she was witty and she was the most awesome multitasker! She did everything at lightning speed and never sat down.

I have lived the last 18 years without her, thinking what would she think, what would she do, what would she say about so many things. Whilst of course I have my own thoughts on all of these situations, it helps to have her voice in my head to debate the tricky stuff.

my mum taught me to be strong, not to give up, to improvise and be eloquent. To build a bridge when things are tough and to get over the bridge, to cry when I need to but with a purpose. She’s a strong lady, I’m proud to be her daughter! (sorry for caps–keyboard stuck)

#shehelped My Gran was the most amazing woman I knew. She helped to raise my older brother then 10 years later helped to raise me. She would do anything for anyone and I never heard her complain once. She loved cooking sunday dinner for the family and even after I had left home and got married she would invite me & my husband round for dinner every week. She did so much and never asked for anything in return. I wish she could have met my son, they would have adored each other x

I was diagnosed with a rare illness at 17 and in hospital a lot, my mum would go to work in the morning, come and see me in hospital every single day in her ‘lunch hour and then again after work at night, then she would walk home for 45 minutes as she doesn’t drive.. I love her to bits and im so thankful for everything shes done for me, SHE IS ALWAYS THERE WHEN I NEED HER FOR ANYTHING AT ALL AND WE ARE LIKE BEST FRIENDS.

I’d never even seriously considered attending university, but she told me I ought to be thinking of applying to Oxbridge and gave me lots of support and encouragement during the application process. She also looks after a friend of hers from the church who has been poorly for the last 2 years doing much the same as she does for me. All this and still has enough energy left to care for herself and my lovely dad and their own home. I really don’t know how she does it, but I do know it leaves her in a great deal of pain, and she never moans about it! A real inspiration and I love her to bits <3 best mum in the world xxx

My sister always inspires me she has three of her own children and has been fostering for nearly ten years and has put so much energy to transforming less fortunate childrens’ lives. From new born babies collecting them from hospital, to emergency placements of siblings at very short notice, to longer term placements of young boys and girls who are now enjoying their lives with their new adopted homes she selflessly has made possible. A twenty four hour job, seven days a week every week of the year and ensures her own family is never neglected too. She is always working and amazes me with her DEDICATION and total commitment.
