When I was approached by Canesten to talk about a woman in my life who had helped or inspired me for the #SHEHELPED Campaign, I knew straight away the perfect woman as she has done both.
The Lady who Inspires Me #SHEHELPED
My Mum has devoted her life to bringing up me and my two sisters showing us unconditional love every single day and putting us first before herself. My Mum has brought me up with a fantastic understanding of what it is to be loved and has taught me how to love others and become the Mum I am today. When I was 17, I had the difficult task of telling my Mum that I was pregnant. Instead of judging me she showed me nothing but love all the way through the pregnancy supporting me by attending all my antenatal appointments and the scans and most importantly was there with me throughout the delivery and it lasted a whopping 28 hours!
The really hard work came when my son was born and then my Mum really excelled herself helping with the night feeds, bathing, taking him out for walks and all of the everyday tasks you have as a new Mum. When my son became a toddler I even went back to work as a travel agent whilst my mum took care of my son and encouraged me to still have a social life with my friends.
My Mum is still the perfect Nanna 19 years on and has a fantastic relationship with both her grandsons. I can always call on her for help and guidance day or night, she has helped and supported me through years of Ill health and is just a phone call away when I need to let off steam or just for a good old natter. My Mum is an amazing woman and the best role model a young girl could have had.

The campaign encompasses the #SheHelped theme, which is based around promoting the small and big things that women do every day to help other women.
This campaign is centred on honouring women. Canesten want to hear about amazing women everywhere.
They are committed to constantly finding new ways of supporting women to lead healthy fulfilling lives and encourage women to help each other, share knowledge and advice.
Canesten help women around the world, providing education and solutions for their intimate health. They also want to help those women who are less fortunate than most of us. That is why they wanted to support, in any way we could, refugee women affected by the Middle East crisis who are living in sub-standard conditions in camps and settlements in various countries. Canesten offered a substantial donation of Canesten thrush products (around £320,000 worth) to International Health Partners, Europe’s largest charity coordinator that organises the safe and responsible donation of medical products and supplies to developing countries.

My mum. She had breast cancer the first time when she was just 32. She had a mastectomy with no reconstruction. When the cancer appeared in her other breast when she Was 58 and was offered a reconstruction of both breasts she turned it down, I asked her why she didn’t have it done when she Was young, she said she was just grateful to be going home alive to see her 3 daughters grow up. She sadly died when she was 60. I’m about to have a preventative mastectomy myself next week and whenever I falter I think of those words and it keeps me strong.

My Mum,. She lost her leg in a horrific motorbike accident just over 20 years ago. The strength she showed during the whole recovery process and still, to this day with ongoing issues, has been awe inspiring.
I have been inspired by my amazing Mum who sadly passed away last July aged 81. She was a formidable woman! A strong lady with opinions you COULDN’T change and a heart of gold. She made me the strong independent woman I am today with her Victorian values and firm beliefs.

The most amazing woman I ever knew was my grandma, who taught me to respect myself and make sure no-one ever made me feel like I was worth nothing. She taught me to leave if my life became too tough, because we aren’t here for long enough to continue in misery xx
My mum always shows me how to be positive even when you feel down.
mY MUM IS INSPIRATIONAL BECAUSE SHE BROUGHT UP SIX KIDS SINGLE HANDEDLY AND NEVER CLAIMED BENEFITS.
#SHEHELPED My mum inspires me because she was due to move to australia and was told she had breas cancer 2 years ago. She is now in remission and is moving to western austrailia in May this year #Alwaysfollowyourdreams
#SHEHELPED The best thing about my Mum is her bravery and tenacity. She has been through so much in her life, including being left a single mother when my Dad died. She never complains, and is always there for anyone. She’s never got any money because she will invariably give her last pound to someone who needs it. My dream is to be in a financial position to look after her for a change. I’m not ashamed to say that she is my heroine and the person I look up to the most in this world. No matter that I am an adult and a mother myself, I am proud to say that. She’s not perfect, I know that, like the fact that every piece of advice she has ever given me (especially in regards to parenting), has
been 100% spot on is pretty annoying.
#SHEHELPED my mum showed me how to make lemon drizzle loaf and now I make it for my family.
#SHEHELPED My mum has always been there for me and encouraged me to follow my star, no matter what might be expected of me. And always patient, kind and loving, a true inspiration.
ALl the other multiple mums helped me when I found out I was carrying twins. Without their support I would have struggled a lot more
When my partner became very ill with Meningitis, and again when we lost one of the children, online friends and acquaintances were there for me day and night – with advice, support and many thousands of virtual hugs. I wouldn’t be here without them.

my MUM WHO PASSED AWAY 16 MONTHS AGO WILL ALWAYS BE A HUGE INSPIRATION TO ME. SHE ALWAYS PUT OTHERS BEFORE HERSELF. EVEN WHEN SHE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER AND HAVING WEEKS LEFT TO LIVE, SHE NEVER CRIED OR ASKED WHY HER. I NURSED HER AT HOME AND SHE WAS AN ANGEL TO CARE FOR. SHE HID THE PAIN FROM ME, MY DAD AND BROTHER TO SPARE US HEARTACHE IN HER WAY. i ONLY HOPE i CAN BE AS STRONG AS SHE WAS.
My mother was a true inspiration to me. When I was little, she raised me by herself on a very low wage with no help. She often went without food so I could eat and she taught me what it really means to be a good parent.
I had a teacher who managed to make me see my potential – but for her I wouldn’t have had the confidence to do my degrees.
MY COMPUTING TEACHER MAKE ME SEE I HAD A GIFT WITH COMPUTERS AND HELPED ME GET A GREAT JOB. AND A SUCCESSFUL CAREER. I HAD WANTED TO BE A NURSERY NURSE

my mum baked and decorated my wedding cake and handmade my five bridesmaids dresses for me – absolute legend!
#SHEHELPED For me, the woman who has left a lasting impact on me and who I carry in my head and my heart everyday is my maternal grandmother.
She died almost 18 years ago. This means I have lived the same amount of time without her now as I lived with her in my life. How is it then that I still remember everything about her? Those memories are as vivid now as they were the day she died.
Did she have an extraordinary career? No she did not. Was she famous? No she was not. Was she an international peacekeeper? No she was not. She was however, many wonderful things and above all, she was a strong matriarch.
She had so many qualities I thought were vital for a woman to have. She was fiercely independent, she was determined, she was loving and caring, she would help anyone, she was a fixer, she was honest, she was witty and she was the most awesome multitasker! She did everything at lightning speed and never sat down.
I have lived the last 18 years without her, thinking what would she think, what would she do, what would she say about so many things. Whilst of course I have my own thoughts on all of these situations, it helps to have her voice in my head to debate the tricky stuff.
My mum is the amazing woman who has inspired me. She has raised three children as a single mother, and held three jobs for most of her life, working hard to support her family. #SHEHELPED
my mum taught me to be strong, not to give up, to improvise and be eloquent. To build a bridge when things are tough and to get over the bridge, to cry when I need to but with a purpose. She’s a strong lady, I’m proud to be her daughter! (sorry for caps–keyboard stuck)
my beloved grandma is the most inspirational woman in my life 🙂 since i was a little girl, she has tought me a lot of things about life and has always been by my side, giving me best of her care and advice! I appreciate everything she has done for me and my family up to this very moment, she’s a wonderful woman.
#shehelped My Gran was the most amazing woman I knew. She helped to raise my older brother then 10 years later helped to raise me. She would do anything for anyone and I never heard her complain once. She loved cooking sunday dinner for the family and even after I had left home and got married she would invite me & my husband round for dinner every week. She did so much and never asked for anything in return. I wish she could have met my son, they would have adored each other x
My grandmother is my inspiration. She’s 85 and still lives on her own without any help. She’s been an endless supply of useful advice on raising children and she’s the centre of our family.
#shehelped my mother in law is amazing, she’s always been so supportive, funny and A real friend.
my mum is my hero she help me out with my 2 children
#shehelped My amazing mum as she brought up my four siblings and i up on her own. she is the most patient and generous person, often going without to give to others. I was diagnosed with a rare illness at 17 and in hospital a lot, my mum would go to work in the morning, come and see me in hospital every single day in her ‘lunch hour and then again after work at night, then she would walk home for 45 minutes as she doesn’t drive.. I love her to bits and im so thankful for everything shes done for me, SHE IS ALWAYS THERE WHEN I NEED HER FOR ANYTHING AT ALL AND WE ARE LIKE BEST FRIENDS.
I have some friends and family members with hidden illnesses. Their ability to be there for everyone, including husbands and children, is absolutely inspirational. It gave me real perspective when dealing with the inconvenience (and comparably small and short lived) pain of a broken elbow.
my counsellor who helped me come to terms with my husbands sudden death
My grandma was a nurse in the second world war and nursed hundreds of soldiers back to health. watching how she cared about every human was incredible and inspiring, and she smiled and laughed every day, and brought laughter and smiles to everyone around her. inspiration to be happy. my amazing grandma
my mum.
i talk to some amazing women on health support groups who have unselfishly provided information and support, age doesn’t seem to matter either. Not really an individual but together this network provides forms a rock of support for me.
#SHEHELPED ENCOURAGE ME TO STUDY AND DO SOMETHING GREAT WITH MY LIFE.
My midwife!! she WAS SO AMAZING! i WALKED IN TO A PACKED LABOUR AND DELIVERY WARD FEELING SCARED AND LIKE I HAD NO IDEA WHAT i was suppose to be doing. I left not only a mummy but with a huge boost of knowledge and confidence she gave me whilst i was there. #shehelped
my sisters are both inspirational.both been through hard times and struggles but always remain so positive and focused.
#SheHelped I had a wonderful history teacher at school who really inspired me to continue with my education. I’d never even seriously considered attending university, but she told me I ought to be thinking of applying to Oxbridge and gave me lots of support and encouragement during the application process. I went on to read history at Cambridge, and it was all down to her.
i am really grateful to my health visitor who cames to visit immediately when i eventually plucked up enough courage to phone her to say i thought i had post natal depression – she listened without judging and really understood.. She helped me get the support i needed to get back to normal and I am so thankful to her #shehelped
An inspirational woman in my life was my late aunt, she brought me up as her own, and would have done anything for me! xx
#SHEHELPED
my mum inspires me, she has had 3 major strokes and various other health issues, yet she raises thousand of pound for charity and she Is always the first person to offer help when anyone needs it
#SheHelped My mum is an absolute inspiration. she raised me to always show kindness, to keep going when things got tough, and to always keep hope. to this day she works incredibly hard yet still has time for weekly calls.
My mother and grandmother are my biggest inspirations. Two generations of women whose ideals and morals helped shape me into the person I am today. Their stoicism, warm natures, and sense of humour showed that life can tackled with positivity and verve, no matter the situation, with plenty of smiles and laughter along the way 🙂
MY MUM told us, her 4 daughters how to check our breasts for abnormalities – because she went through cancer and lost both breasts. Her mother had it, her sisters and her father too – so it’s quite an important thing for us to do. #SHEHELPED
My mum. She is always there for me and has always put me and my sister first. My parents divorced when I was 7 and even though I saw my dad my mum pretty much did everything in my youth. Even now she still rings me every day. Love her so much.
One of my closest friends is inspirational to me. She is only in her 20s, but after her mum was diagnosed with breast cancer, she was tested and found to have the brca1 gene. She had her breasts removed, and never complained once through the entire process. We could all try to be a bit more like her.
My grandmother was an inspirational woman. Getting a Masters degree at the time when it was less common for women to get an education, and having a strong mind – those were the things I admired about her.
my mother – she raised me as a single parent, became a teacher so she could look after me during the school holidays and not fob me off onto baby sitters. she helped me get into the local grammar school and cheered with me when i got into medical school. now that im all grown up and a doctor, she still looks after me when i go home to visit
My mum is an inspiration..nothing can hold her back from what she wants to do in life, theres always some new adventure going on at the age of 70 and her social life is better than mine! #shehelped by showing me that nothing is impossible and to keep on smiling
My mum, she has always been there for me and taught me everything i know
My mum inspires me every day, she’s 70 years old and suffers terribly with arthritis and polyut I myalgia but still she looks after me day in day out as I’m physically disabled myself – she comes in to do my housework, decorating, ironing, bed sheets and much more! She also looks after a friend of hers from the church who has been poorly for the last 2 years doing much the same as she does for me. All this and still has enough energy left to care for herself and my lovely dad and their own home. I really don’t know how she does it, but I do know it leaves her in a great deal of pain, and she never moans about it! A real inspiration and I love her to bits <3 best mum in the world xxx
MY mum even though she has cmt (charcot-marie tooth disease which affects her nerve endings and ability to perform everyday tasks) is always ready to help even though she on crutches now she will still help nothing stops her
My mum is the best. She has always helped me when things are difficult and whether it’s in person or on the phone now we live 100 miles apart, she knows when I need her to make me feel better and always fnds the time between being a full time carer for my grandmother and looking afer my little sister
Like you my mum has been my inspiration 🙂 she has been a fantastic role model and such an inspiration to me, and when I turned out to be severely disabled and require a high level of care she has continued to do that uncomplainingly and so selflessly – she never puts herself first. Of course she isn’t perfect 🙂 but I couldn’t ask for a more wonderful, caring and inspirational mother
My gran, she was widowed at a young age and brought up 13 kids single handedly. She’s amazing!
#SHEHELPED My grandparents sadly passed away this year and my mother in law was my rock, not only did she help me by looking after my kids but she helped me plan the wakes and made the beautiful flower arrangements, i couldn’t have got through the time without her
#SHEHELPED mY mOm is a god send to me, she has helped me over the last 7 years get over domestic violence, divorce,, ptsd, and in recent years when i developed chRonic illness, she has ferried me to hospitAl appointments and taken care of me. I owe so much to her.

my heroin and inspiration is my mum who is always there to help and has enormous strength and fortitude.
My grandmother. even in her mid 80s, she is the most strong willed and independent woman ive ever known. she had a very difficult, poor childhood, grew up in world war 2, raised 7 children whilst her and my granddad were poor, and she became a very successful lady in her own right, retiring with 6 rolls royces.
xo millie http://www.modishrambling.com
Shehelped me, my mum who has amazing work ethic and inspired me to keep going.
My sister always inspires me she has three of her own children and has been fostering for nearly ten years and has put so much energy to transforming less fortunate childrens’ lives. From new born babies collecting them from hospital, to emergency placements of siblings at very short notice, to longer term placements of young boys and girls who are now enjoying their lives with their new adopted homes she selflessly has made possible. A twenty four hour job, seven days a week every week of the year and ensures her own family is never neglected too. She is always working and amazes me with her DEDICATION and total commitment.
My Mam who was widowed quite young and raised five children on her own.
she also managed to adopt and foster kids along the way (she was raised in care, herself)
i love her quirky, sence of humour. her honesty, though, is the thing i admire the most – relationships are nothing without trust xx
My nan is truelly my inspiration. She has always taught me to put others first, to never give up, to always consider consequences and to live each day like it could be your very last.

I have a lovely support network of mummy friends that i met in a forum shortly after I had my first miscarriage. That was almost 4 years ago, and I still speak to most of them on a daily basis.
